SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE DELIVERING MEALS, PROVIDING TELEPHONE REASSURANCE, PROVIDING FINANCIAL LITERACY SERVICES SUCH AS WRITING CHECKS AND BALANCING CHECKBOOKS, PROVIDING COMPANIONSHIP TO VETERANS, HELPING SENIORS ACCESS HEALTHCARE/INSURANCE AND PROVIDING EVIDENCED-BASED HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM THE PRIMARY FOCUS IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE 36-MONTH GRANT PERIOD THE FOLLOWING ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES WILL HAVE BEEN MET: 600 UNDUPLICATED INDIVIDUALS WILL HAVE RECEIVED MEALS ON WHEELS; 312 PEOPLE WILL HAVE SAVED$74,880 IN TAX PREPARATION FEES; 70 VETERANS WILL HAVE RECEIVED WEEKLY COMPANIONSHIP SERVICES; 50 ELDERS WILL HAVE SAVED AT LEAST $12,000.00 IN ACCOUNTING SERVICES; 1,500 CLIENT WILL HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE EVIDENCED BASED A MATTER OF BALANCE PROGRAM; AND 60 INDIVIDUALS WILL HAVE RECEIVED TELEPHONE REASSURANCE SERVICES. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $80,309 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $34,414 (30%) OF NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES.

THE PRIMARY CNCS FOCUS AREA FOR RSVP OF SOUTHERN MAINE?S APPLICATION IS ?HEALTHY FUTURES?. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE 36-MONTH GRANT PERIOD THE FOLLOWING ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES WILL HAVE BEEN MET: 600 HOMEBOUND SENIORS RECEIVING MEALS ON WHEELS WILL REPORT INCREASED FOOD SECURITY; 45 SENIORS WILL REPORT INCREASED SOCIAL SUPPORT AS A RESULT OF THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE PHONE PAL PROGRAM; 2,950 INDIVIDUALS WILL HAVE INCREASED HEALTH KNOWLEDGE AS A RESULT OF THEIR WORK WITH TRAINED STATE HEALTH INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM INSURANCE COUNSELORS; 1,500 OLDER ADULTS WILL EXPERIENCE INCREASED HEALTH KNOWLEDGE THAT HELPS THEM REDUCE THEIR RISK AND FEAR OF FALLS THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN EVIDENCE-BASED FALLS PREVENTION PROGRAMS; 45 LOW-INCOME SENIORS WILL REPORT INCREASED FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE AS A RESULT OF THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE MONEY MINDERS PROGRAM; VITA TAX ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEERS WILL HELP SENIORS RECEIVE A TOTAL OF $97,000 IN TAX RETURNS THROUGH THE AARP TAX AIDE PROGRAM; AND 65 VETERANS PARTICIPATING IN THE VET TO VET MAINE PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM WILL REPORT INCREASED LEVELS OF COMPANIONSHIPS AND ABILITY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $87,809 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $38,001 (30%) OF NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES FROM THE SOUTHERN MAINE AGENCY ON AGING.
