THESE FACULTY-MENTORED EXPERIENCES WILL ACCELERATE STUDENT LEARNING, INSTILL CONFIDENCE AND INCREASE CLINICAL JUDGEMENT, THESE COMMUNITY HEALTH EXPERIENCES COMPLEMENT CHALLENGING COURSEWORK, REINFORCE STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE, AND INTEGRATES NURSING THEORY AND PRACTICE. THIS PROJECT WILL SUPPORT COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT IN THE GREATER NASHUA, MANCHESTER, AND CONCORD REGIONS AND BEYOND WITH AN EMPHASIS ON RURAL AND UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS. SENIOR CENTERS, YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIAL CENTERS SERVING VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. PURPOSE: FEDERAL FUNDING FOR THIS PROJECT WILL EXPAND STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCES IN DELIVERING NURSING CARE IN NUMEROUS SITES AND ACROSS DISTINCTIVE REGIONS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE INCLUDING SENIOR CENTERS, YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS, FOOD BANKS AND AGENCIES SERVING VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. THE ABILITY TO EXPAND THE GEOGRAPHICAL REACH OF NURSING EXPERIENCES AND VULNERABLE POPULATIONS PROVIDE FACULTY-MENTORED EXPERIENCES AND PREVENTIVE CARE, FOOT CARE, HEALTH SCREENINGS, IMMUNIZATIONS, AND NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION. DRAWING UPON DEEP INSTITUTIONAL AND CLINICAL RESOURCES AND IN SERVICE TO ITS MISSION OF TRANSFORMING THE COMMUNITY, RIVIER UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF NURSING PROPOSES TO ESTABLISH A MOBILE, COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH CARE VAN THAT WILL PROVIDE PREVENTATIVE AND PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO HIGH NEEDS POPULATIONS IN GREATER NASHUA. THE PROPOSED PROJECT RELIES UPON FOUR PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: 1) PURCHASING A 24-28 FOOT VAN 2) PROVIDING PRIMARY AND PREVENTATIVE CARE TO 1200-1500 INDIVIDUALS ANNUALLY BY HOLDING CLINICS APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS EACH WEEK DURING TEN MONTHS EACH YEAR AT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF NASHUA, AND SENIOR CENTER OF NASHUA, 3) OFFERING OVER 900 NURSING STUDENTS ACROSS UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE DEGREE LEVELS A SUBSTANTIVE, PRACTICE-BASED FIELD EXPERIENCE WITH DIRECT SUPERVISION AND MENTORSHIP BY NURSING FACULTY IN HIGH NEEDS COMMUNITIES. 4) SUPPORTING NURSING FACULTY BY CREATING AN AVENUE TO MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND PROMOTE RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP THROUGH DIRECT, COMMUNITY-BASED CLINICAL PRACTICE. STUDENTS WILL PRACTICE, REFINE, AND REPLICATE PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH SCREENINGS AND WILL BE ABLE TO PRACTICE COMMUNITY HEALTH CORE PRINCIPLES. IN POST-SIMULATION DEBRIEFING, STUDENTS WILL MEET WITH FACULTY TO EVALUATE AND ASSESS THE PROPER CLINICAL SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES.
