(ABCD), AND ITS CLINICAL PARTNERS, OUTLINE A LONGSTANDING, PROVEN APPROACH TO MEETING THE NEEDS AND ADDRESSING DISPARATE ACCESS OF LOW-INCOME POPULATIONS IN GREATER BOSTON, CENTRAL, NORTH, SOUTH, AND WESTERN MA. THIS PROPOSAL ALSO HIGHLIGHTS NEW INITIATIVES TO EXTEND SERVICES TO MEMBERS OF EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH-NEED GROUPS, INCLUDING SEX WORKERS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER. IN THE COMBINED AREAS SERVED BY THIS PROPOSAL, AN ESTIMATED 359,770 WOMEN ARE IN NEED OF PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR CONTRACEPTIVE SERVICES AND SUPPLIES, AND ONLY 90,830 ACCESS THE SERVICES. THEREFORE, ONLY 25% OF THOSE IN NEED OF THE SERVICE RECEIVE IT. ABCD PROPOSES TO REACH 27,550 UNDUPLICATED CLIENTS THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF ITS NETWORK, OF WHOM APPROXIMATELY 8,800 WILL BE ADOLESCENTS. THIS REPRESENTS A NET EXPANSION OF 51% IN PERSONS WHO WILL HAVE ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES.

AN ESTIMATED 136 FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN EDUCATION-BASED ASSIGNMENTS. SERVICE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE ASSISTING IN HEAD START AND PRESCHOOL CLASSROOMS, SPECIFICALLY IN THE AREA OF SCHOOL READINESS (SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL AND LITERACY); PROVIDING TUTORING IN K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO SUPPORT LITERACY OUTCOMES, AND PROVIDING MENTORING IN A SCHOOL-BASED PROGRAM. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION, ADDRESSING BOTH SCHOOL READINESS AND SUCCEEDING IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12TH GRADE OBJECTIVES. THIS SYSTEM ENSURES THAT PROGRAM OUTPUTS AND OUTCOMES ARE COLLECTED, MEASURED, AND MANAGED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE MEASURES OUTLINED IN THE PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT SECTION OF THIS PROPOSAL, AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL FGP FEDERAL REGULATIONS. TO FULFILL THIS MISSION, ABCD USES A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH THAT SYSTEMATICALLY ADDRESSES THE RANGE OF BARRIERS FACED BY HOUSEHOLDS IN POVERTY - FROM DAY-TO-DAY CRISES TO LONG-TERM NEEDS FOR JOBS AND EDUCATION. THE PROPOSED VISTA PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE HEALTHY FUTURES/OBESITY AND FOOD FOCUS AREA. THE VISTA PROJECT WILL SEEK TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF ABCD?S SIX NEIGHBORHOOD-BASED FOOD PANTRIES BY IMPROVING EFFICIENCY IN SEVERAL AREAS OF OPERATIONS AND EXPECTS TO BENEFIT AN ESTIMATED 4,200 LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THAT USE THE FOOD PANTRIES. ONE VISTA MEMBER WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT BY PERFORMING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS DEVELOPING, ADMINISTERING, AND ANALYZING A SURVEY OF THE FOOD PANTRY CLIENTS?
