2.2.1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY A PROGRAM OF ELDER SERVICES OF CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS (ESCCI) SINCE 1993, RSVP ENGAGES VOLUNTEERS IN ACTIVITIES THAT HELP MEET THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY WHILE SUPPORTING ESCCI?S MISSION OF PROMOTING THE WELFARE, ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND MAINTAINING THE DIGNITY OF ELDERS IN BARNSTABLE, DUKES AND NANTUCKET COUNTIES. AN ESTIMATED 450 UNDUPLICATED RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE ON CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS. OF THESE 450 RSVP VOLUNTEERS, 318 WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: INCREASING ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE AND HEALTH EDUCATION, TRANSPORTATION, FOOD DELIVERY, FINANCIAL LITERACY, IMPROVING PARKS, AND MENTORING AND TUTORING PROGRAMS AT LOCAL AREA SCHOOLS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES. AT THE END OF THE THREE YEAR GRANT, THE ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS INCLUDE: INCREASE IN ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE, INCREASE IN FOOD SECURITY, MILES AND ACRES OF LAND/WATERWAYS IMPROVED, INCREASED FINANCIAL LITERACY AND STUDENT ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT. THE REQUESTED CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $147,099 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $170,484 FOR A TOTAL BUDGET OF $318,083.

AN ESTIMATED 500 UNDUPLICATED RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE ON CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS. OF THESE 500 RSVP VOLUNTEERS, 235 WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES, WITH A 192 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING TO OUTPUTS. ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE (145) OF THE 235 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING TO OUTCOMES WILL BE ADDRESSING THE UNMET NEEDS OF HOMEBOUND, OLDER ADULTS, AND INDIVIDUAL WITH DISABILITIES. WORKING WITH A NETWORK OF 12 NON-PROFIT SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES ACROSS CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS VOLUNTEERS WILL PROVIDE INCREASED ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH EDUCATION, TRANSPORTATION, FOOD DELIVERY, FINANCIAL LITERACY AND INCREASED SOCIAL SUPPORTS TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE. THROUGH THESE ACTIVITIES, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT OVER 3000 INDIVIDUAL WILL REPORT INCREASED SOCIAL TIES/PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT BY THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT CYCLE. AN ADDITIONAL 90 VOLUNTEERS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO OUTCOMES IN THE EDUCATION FOCUS AREA THROUGH THE FACILITATION OF MENTORING AND TUTORING PROGRAMS AT LOCAL AREA SCHOOLS. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT 1080 STUDENTS WILL DEMONSTRATE IMPROVED ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT BY THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT CYCLE. THE REMAINING 280 RSVP VOLUNTEERS NOT CONTRIBUTING TO OUTCOMES WILL BE PLACED IN DISASTER SERVICES, ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY, ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP, VETERANS AND MILITARY FAMILIES, HEALTHY FUTURES (NO OUTCOME) WORK PLANS WITHIN 69 NON-PROFIT, TOWN AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO WORK ON ACTIVITIES SUCH AS AIDING COMMUNITIES IN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE; IMPROVING PARKS, PUBLIC LANDS AND WATERWAYS; HELPING AT FOOD BANKS; AND LEADING HEALTH EDUCATION CLASSES. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $140,099 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $143,566.
