PROJECT SUMMARY: NSCDC IS UNIQUELY STRUCTURED AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN DEVELOPING THE FIRST YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM ON THE NORTH SHORE. NSCDC OPERATES A CONSTRUCTION PLUS PROGRAM WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING IN THE MUCH-NEEDED HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY AND IN CULINARY ARTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOR HEALTHCARE AND WITH ROOT IN CULINARY. NSCDC HAD BEEN OPERATING A SUCCESSFUL YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM FOR OVER 10 YEARS, AND HAS DEVELOPED A STRONG COLLABORATIVE NETWORK. YBNS IS A VIABLE, DEDICATED, STRATEGIC PARTNER OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS. THE EDUCATION COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE HANDLED BY TWO CERTIFIED TEACHERS CURRENTLY ON STAFF WHO WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTION LEADING TO THE ATTAINMENT OF THE HISET, THE EQUIVALENCY DEGREE ACCEPTED BY THE MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION. YBNS PROVIDES THE PRIMARY CONSTRUCTION SKILLS TRAINING AT THE PROJECTS WHERE THE HOUSING CONSTRUCTION WORKSITE TRAINING WILL CONSIST OF SIGNIFICANT HOUSING REHABILITATION. ADDITIONAL WORKSITE TRAINING OCCURS AT THE YBNS LAB AND CLASSROOM. THE PARTNERSHIPS THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED HAVE ADDED STRENGTH TO THE OVERALL EFFORT. ALL PARTNERS HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND HELPED DEVELOP THE CURRENT YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM. THERE IS A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE OVERALL MISSION AND EVERYONES PLACE IN THAT MISSION. UNDER THE STRONG LEADERSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COALITION, THIS TEAM IS WORKING TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING, UNDEREDUCATED YOUTH AND A HIGH YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE.
