SCHOOLS AND FAMILIES TOGETHER: ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF GET REAL: COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION THAT WORKS (SAFT) - THE SCHOOLS AND FAMILIES TOGETHER (SAFT) PROJECT WILL REDUCE TEEN PREGNANCY AND STI TRANSMISSION THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GET REAL: COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION THAT WORKS (GET REAL) HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM. GET REAL IS AN 11-LESSON, EVIDENCE-INFORMED, INCLUSIVE, TRAUMA-INFORMED, AND AGE-APPROPRIATE COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION CURRICULUM WITH STRONG FOUNDATIONS IN SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. AS A RESULT OF RECEIVING THE GET REAL INTERVENTION, STUDENTS WILL SHOW INCREASE IN THEIR: CONFIDENCE TO DEMAND USE OF CONDOMS AND OTHER BARRIER METHODS; COMFORT TALKING WITH PARENTS ABOUT SEX; COMFORT TALKING WITH A PARTNER ABOUT PREGNANCY AND STIS; INTENTION TO USE CONDOMS AND OTHER STD PREVENTION METHODS; INTENTION TO USE BIRTH CONTROL; AND INTENTIONS TO DELAY SEX (VAGINAL, ORAL, ANAL). THESE SHORT-TERM OUTCOMES WILL LEAD TO LONGER-TERM OUTCOMES OF: DELAYED ONSET OF VAGINAL, ORAL & ANAL SEX; INCREASED USE OF CONDOMS & OTHER STI BARRIER METHODS; INCREASED USE OF BIRTH CONTROL; SMALLER INCREASE IN NUMBER OF SEXUAL PARTNERS; AND ESPECIALLY FOR LGBTQIA+ YOUTH: INCREASED COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS/TRUSTED ADULTS ABOUT SEX, RELATIONSHIPS, GENDER, AND SEXUAL IDENTITY; AND INCREASED CONFIDENCE TO ACCESS SEXUAL & REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE. IN ORDER TO REACH THESE OUTCOMES, PLANNED PARENTHOOD LEAGUE OF MASSACHUSETTS WILL PARTNER WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF GREATER OHIO AND WELLESLEY CENTERS FOR WOMEN TO TRAIN A TEAM OF INTERVENTION FACILITATORS TO IMPLEMENT GET REAL WITH 75 CLASSROOMS; SURVEY 150 COUNTERFACTUAL (C) AND INTERVENTION (TX) CLASSROOMS THROUGH PRE-, POST-, AND FOLLOW UP SURVEYS; RIGOROUSLY EVALUATE THE INTERVENTION THROUGH A RANDOMIZED CONTROL TRIAL; CREATE FACT SHEETS TO DESCRIBE THE INTERVENTION AND EVALUATION; PUBLISH IN PEER-REVIEWED JOURNALS, AND PRESENT FINDINGS AT PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCES.
