DATING FROM 1927 TO THE 1950S, THE IMAGES DOCUMENT THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICAN YACHTING. THE MUSEUM WILL RECOVER NEGATIVES AFFECTED BY A FORM OF DETERIORATION KNOWN AS VINEGAR SYNDROME, WHICH WILL ALLOW THEM TO BE REHOUSED, DIGITIZED, AND MADE AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH AND EXHIBITION.

THE PROJECT WILL INVOLVE REMOVAL OF THE VESSEL?S INTERIOR JOINERY, CATALOGING AND STORAGE OF THE JOINERY FOR FUTURE RE-INSTALLATION, AND DOCUMENTATION OF THE ENTIRE PROCESS. THE WORK WILL PRESERVE THE VESSEL?S DESIGN AND STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND BE PERFORMED BY THE MUSEUM?S PRESERVATION SHIPYARD WITH THE SUPPORT OF TWO STUDENTS FROM THE INTERNATIONAL YACHT RESTORATION SCHOOL WHO WILL JOIN THE PROJECT TEAM FOR A 12-WEEK INTERNSHIP. THE MATERIALS WILL BE REHOUSED IN PROPER INERT AND ACID-FREE CONTAINERS THAT WILL BE STORED IN THE MUSEUM'S PRIMARY COLLECTIONS VAULT.
