THE MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE IN SEATTLE WILL HIRE THE ARC OF KING COUNTY (THE ARC), A NONPROFIT SERVING PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, TO SPEND 5 MONTHS OBSERVING AND ANALYZING THE MUSEUM'S LIVESTREAMED WORKSHOPS, IN-MUSEUM WORKSHOPS, AND DIGITAL LESSON PLANS. THE ARC WILL RECOMMEND WAYS THE MUSEUM CAN BETTER ENGAGE STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, WHO HAVE BEEN ESPECIALLY IMPACTED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. MUSEUM STAFF WILL ATTEND TRAININGS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THIS WORK AND WILL ENACT THE ARC'S RECOMMENDATIONS, SPENDING 2 MONTHS WITH SELECTED PARTNER SCHOOLS TO PILOT THE ADAPTED PROGRAM CURRICULA. THE ARC WILL REVIEW THE PILOT EVALUATION REPORT SO THAT THE MUSEUM CAN MODIFY AND FINALIZE THE CURRICULUM. FINALLY, MUSEUM EDUCATION STAFF WILL CONDUCT OUTREACH AND MARKETING EFFORTS TO ENGAGE CLASSROOM TEACHERS, NONPROFITS, AND FAMILY GROUPS TO ATTEND THE REVISED PROGRAMS.

WE GROW TEACHER LEADERS, STUDENT LEADERS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. THE PROPOSED VISTA PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE EDUCATION & HEALTHY FUTURES FOCUS AREA. THE VISTA PROJECT WILL SEEK TO SUPPORT OVERALL STUDENT WELLNESS, CREATE A DIVERSE, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM, DEVELOP INTEGRATED AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ALIGNED CURRICULUM, RESEARCH BEST PRACTICES FOR VIBRANT OUTDOOR/INDOOR RECESS OPPORTUNITIES AND INCREASE CAPACITY TO SERVE EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS ACROSS RHODE ISLAND. FOUR VISTA MEMBERS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOALS ALIGNED WITH EDUCATION BY PERFORMING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS ASSISTING WITH SYSTEM ENHANCEMENTS DATA AND EVALUATION TOOLS, CREATING PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS, DEVELOPING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS, CREATING RECESS TRAINING MODULES, AND IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIES AND SYSTEMS FOR RECRUITING DIVERSE TEACHER CANDIDATES. TWO VISTAS WILL CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THE HEALTHY FUTURES FOCUS AREA BY PROVIDING INTEGRAL CAPACITY-BUILDING SUPPORT TO OUR CITY'S FIRST OF IT'S KIND NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH STATION. VISTAS WILL BE MEMBERS OF A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM STRATEGICALLY CHARGED WITH BUILDING SYSTEMS TO ENROLL AS MANY CENTRAL FALLS RESIDENTS INTO THE STATION AS POSSIBLE. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE MARCH 2019: IN CENTRAL FALLS, THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE VISTA SERVING WITH THE OFFICE ON HEALTH AS THE COMMUNITY HEALTH VISTA.
