PROJECT TITLE: DREAMS YOUTHBUILD (DREAMS)PROJECT SUMMARY: CYPRESS HILLS LOCAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION IS A NEW APPLICANT AS THE LEADAGENCY BUT A LONGTIME PARTNER OF DREAMS YOUTHBUILD. CLHDC HAS A RICH HISTORY OF PROVIDINGSERVICES TO THE NEEDY CITIZENS OF THE TARGET AREA. DREAMS OPERATES A CONSTRUCTION PLUSPROGRAM WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING IN THE MUCH-NEEDED HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY IN PARTNERSHIP WITHCUNY KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE. DREAMS HAS BEEN OPERATING A SUCCESSFULYOUTHBUILD PROGRAM FOR OVER 17 YEARS AND HAS DEVELOPED A STRONG COLLABORATIVE NETWORK.CHLDC IS A VIABLE, DEDICATED, STRATEGIC PARTNER OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS. THEEDUCATION COMPONENT OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE HANDLED BY TEACHERS FROM THE NEW YORK CITYDEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DISTRICT 79 WHO WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTION LEADING TO THE ATTAINMENT OF THEGED. DREAMS PROVIDES THE PRIMARY CONSTRUCTION SKILLS TRAINING AT THE PROJECTS WHERE THEHOUSING CONSTRUCTION WORKSITE TRAINING WILL CONSIST OF SIGNIFICANT GUT REHABILITATION. THEPARTNERSHIPS THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED HAVE ADDED STRENGTH TO THE OVERALL EFFORT. ALL PARTNERSHAVE BEEN TRAINED AND HELPED DEVELOP THE CURRENT YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM. THERE IS A CLEARUNDERSTANDING OF THE OVERALL MISSION AND EVERYONES PLACE IN THAT MISSION. UNDER THE STRONGLEADERSHIP OF CHLDC, THIS TEAM IS WORKING TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING,UNDEREDUCATED YOUTH AND A HIGH YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE.
