THE YWCA OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK (YW-NYC) IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN, AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM, AND DIGNITY FOR ALL. SINCE 1858, THE YW-NYC HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE NATION'S MOST CRITICAL SOCIAL JUSTICE MOVEMENTS, ENSURING THE PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES LIVING IN NEW YORK CITY. TODAY, THE YW-NYC IS HELPING A NEW GENERATION OF CULTURALLY DIVERSE GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN, AS WELL AS BOYS AND YOUNG MEN, TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AS THEY NAVIGATE THE INTERSECTIONS OF RACE, CLASS, AND GENDER THROUGH LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY TRAINING FOR SELF-IDENTIFIED GIRLS & GENDER NONCONFORMING YOUTH IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND ENRICHING AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS IN CULTURALLY DIVERSE COMMUNITIES. OUR STRATEGY REVOLVES AROUND ADDRESSING THE CRITICAL NEEDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE CITY BY PROVIDING TOOLS FOR SUCCESS IN THEIR LIVES AND COMMUNITIES.
