EXECUTIVE SUMMARY TNTP PROPOSES TO HAVE 300 AMERICORPS MEMBERS WHO WILL BECOME FULL-TIME TEACHERS IN CALIFORNIA, INDIANA, LOUISIANA, MARYLAND, NEVADA, OKLAHOMA, NORTH CAROLINA, AND MASSACHUSETTS. AT THE END OF THE FIRST PROGRAM YEAR, THE AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LEADING OVER 12,150 ECONOMICALLY-DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN CRITICAL SHORTAGE AREAS SUCH AS MATH, SCIENCE AND SPECIAL EDUCATION. IN ADDITION, THE AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL LEVERAGE APPROXIMATELY 1,584 VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL BE ENGAGED IN VARIOUS CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES RANGING FROM SUPPORTING TEACHERS PREPARING FOR SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECTS TO DIRECTLY ASSISTING STUDENTS WITH LESSONS. THIS PROGRAM WILL FOCUS ON THE CNCS FOCUS AREA OF EDUCATION BY IMPROVING THE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN LOW-ACHIEVING ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS. IN ADDITION TO THE CNCS INVESTMENT OF $150,000, TNTP'S PROGRAMS WILL BE SUPPORTED BY $11,225,612 IN OTHER REVENUE FROM PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FUNDING.
