AN ESTIMATED 100 UNDUPLICATED VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE AS FOSTER GRANDPARENTS. AS MENTORS, THEY WILL ASSIST WITH SERVICE ACTIVITIES SUCH AS CLASSROOM ASSISTANCE IN MATH AND LITERACY SKILL BUILDING, MENTORING, TUTORING, NURTURING AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING THROUGH A NETWORK OF MORE THAN 30 VOLUNTEER STATIONS. THESE SERVICE ACTIVITIES WILL OCCUR AT STATIONS SUCH AS BUFFALO PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, HEAD STARTS, CHARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS, AND DAY CARE CENTERS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE 12 MONTH PERFORMANCE PERIOD, THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH IMPROVED ACADEMIC LITERACY AND MATH SKILLS. THESE IMPROVEMENTS WILL BE REFLECTED ON THE ANNUAL CHILD ASSIGNMENT PLANS, AS REPORTED BY CLASSROOM TEACHERS. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $418,303 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $57,000 OF NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES.
