THE GOLETA WATER DISTRICT (DISTRICT), LOCATED IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, WILL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT ADVANCED GROUNDWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS AT ITS AIRPORT WELL TO TREAT AND REMOVE 1,4-DIOXANE AND PER- AND POLYFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES (PFAS). THIS WELL WILL SERVE AS A SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPLY WHEN SURFACE WATER IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE PROJECT WILL RESTORE THE WELL S CAPACITY TO PRODUCE APPROXIMATELY 1,100 ACRE-FEET PER YEAR OF DRINKING WATER FOR THE DISTRICTS SERVICE AREA WHICH INCLUDES MULTIPLE DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES. THIS GROUNDWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM WILL ENSURE THE WELL WATER MEETS ALL STATE AND FEDERAL DRINKING WATER STANDARDS. THIS PROJECT IS SUPPORTED BY THE DISTRICTS 2021 DROUGHT PREPAREDNESS AND WATER SHORTAGE CONTINGENCY PLAN THAT IDENTIFIES GROUNDWATER SUPPLY MITIGATION AS A WATER ENHANCEMENT OPTION DURING TIMES OF DROUGHT.
