THE MISSION OF THE LIVINGSTON FOOD PANTRY OF PARK COUNTY IS TO ENSURE THAT NO PERSON IN LIVINGSTON OR PARK COUNTY, MONTANA, EVER SUFFERS FROM FOOD INSUFFICIENCY. MUCH OF THE AREA SERVED IS LOW-INCOME AND RURAL; MORE THAN 16% OF THE HOUSEHOLDS IN LIVINGSTON LIVE BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL, SO THE NEED IS GREAT. SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 2005, THE LIVINGSTON FOOD PANTRY HAS GROWN AND EVOLVED TO MEET THE CHANGING NEEDS OF THE MANY CHILDREN, ADULTS, AND ELDERLY WHO STRUGGLE WITH HUNGER AND OTHER TRAUMATIC ISSUES RESULTING FROM LIVING IN POVERTY. INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO LEVERAGE THE PANTRY'S ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY'S FOOD SYSTEM, ECONOMY, HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION SYSTEMS. THE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF POVERTY AND HUNGER IN MEANINGFUL AND LONG-LASTING WAYS. THE PANTRY STRIVES TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION BY ENSURING ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD; HELPING DRIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT; AND IMPROVING ACCESS TO ADEQUATE HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATIO

THE LIVINGSTON FOOD RESOURCE CENTERS PROJECT AIMS TO STRENGTHEN PARK COUNTY MONTANAS LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM BY INCREASING ACCESS TO AND AVAILABILITY OF LOCALLY PRODUCED FOODS FOR REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS. THIS INITIATIVE WILL SOURCE AN ADDITIONAL 300000 OF PRODUCE AND MEAT FROM LOCAL FARMS SUPPORTING FARMERS AND RANCHERS WITHIN THE REGION. THE PROJECT WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH SEVERAL KEY ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE EXPANSION OF THE LFRCS AGGREGATION OF LOCAL AND REGIONAL FOOD PRODUCTS THE CREATION OF VALUEADDED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS THROUGH THE PROCESSING OF LOCAL PRODUCE AND THE INCREASED DISTRIBUTION OF THESE PRODUCTS VIA THE LFRCS EXISTING PROGRAMS. THE PROJECT WILL UTILIZE THE LFRCS COMMUNITY BAKERY AND COMMUNITY KITCHEN TO FURTHER CONNECT LOCAL PRODUCERS WITH FOOD ENTREPRENEURS AND TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES FOR INCORPORATING LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTS INTO INSTITUTIONAL SETTINGS WITH THE GOAL OF EXPANDING THE LOCAL RETAIL FOOD MARKET. THE PROJECT ANTICIPATES A POSITIVE IMPACT ON CONSUMERS AND REGIONAL FOOD BUSINESSES BY FACILITATING GREATER ACCESS TO FRESH LOCALLY SOURCED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS. THE LIVINGSTON FOOD RESOURCE CENTER INTENDS TO SUSTAIN THE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM THROUGH EXPANDED OPERATIONS AND INCREASED LOCAL FOOD DEMAND BENEFITING THE ENTIRE PARK COUNTY COMMUNITY.
