CONSORTIUM FOR LEAD BATTERY LEADERSHIP IN LONG DURATION ENERGY STORAGE (LDES) THE RECIPIENT WILL ESTABLISH A PRECOMPETITIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM BETWEEN THE US LEAD BATTERY INDUSTRY AND SEVERAL DOE NATIONAL LABS. THE RECIPIENT WILL DEVELOP THIS PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE INDUSTRY AND NATIONAL LAB CONTRIBUTORS, SHARING PERFORMANCE DATA OF MANY LEAD BATTERY PRODUCTS IN LDES DUTY CYCLES AND WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE THE EXTENSIVE DOMESTIC PRODUCT MANUFACTURING BASE IN THE US. THIS PROGRAM WILL FOCUS ON THE TESTING OF LEAD BATTERIES, IDENTIFICATION OF INNOVATIONS USEFUL FOR LDES APPLICATIONS, AND ANALYZING THE IMPACT ON LCOS. THE CURRENT CALCULATED LCOS FOR LEAD BATTERY ESS IS $0.32/KWH/THROUGHPUT BASED ON THE PNNL TECHNOLOGY CHARACTERIZATION AND PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT (2022). THE MAIN OUTPUT OF THE WORK IS TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON LEAD BATTERY PERFORMANCE TOWARD THE $0.05 KWH/ENERGY THROUGHPUT LDES EARTHSHOT GOAL.
