THE HOME PORT ALLIANCE FOR THE BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY WILL REPLACE DAMAGED AND ROTTED SECTIONS OF THE VESSEL'S TEAK DECK. THE BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY, WHICH WAS ON ACTIVE DUTY FROM 1943-2000, IS ONE OF THE MOST DECORATED MILITARY VESSELS IN UNITED STATES HISTORY AND SAW ACTIVE DUTY IN SEVERAL WARS AND OTHER MILITARY ENGAGEMENTS. THE RESTORATION PROJECT WILL MAINTAIN THE APPEARANCE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN AND PRESERVE THE STRUCTURAL STEEL UNDERNEATH, IMPROVING THE LONG-TERM CARE OF THE SHIP AND ENSURING SAFER SPACES FOR BOTH STAFF AND VISITORS.

THE BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM WILL UNDERTAKE A PROJECT TO COMPLETELY OVERHAUL THE SHIP’S CREW RECORD DATABASE, WHICH HOUSES RECORDS FOR EACH OF THE 45,000 NAVAL AND MARINE CORPS MEMBERS STATIONED ON THE BATTLESHIP DURING HER YEARS OF SERVICE. CURRENTLY, THE DATABASE RUNS ON OUTDATED SOFTWARE, AND THE TOUCH-SCREEN KIOSK FOR VISITORS TO ACCESS THE DATABASE IS NO LONGER OPERATIONAL. THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO MAKE THE DATABASE MORE FUNCTIONAL AND ACCESSIBLE FOR THE PUBLIC. UPON COMPLETION, VISITORS WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE DATABASE THROUGH KIOSKS WITHIN THE MUSEUM AND ONLINE THROUGH THE BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY WEBSITE.
