PARTICULAR EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON TRANSFORMING UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION THROUGH INNOVATIVE, EVIDENCE-BASED RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION STRATEGIES, AND RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN SUPPORT OF RACIAL AND ETHNIC GROUPS HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN STEM DISCIPLINES: BLACKS AND AFRICAN AMERICANS, HISPANIC AND LATINO AMERICANS, AMERICAN INDIANS, ALASKA NATIVES, NATIVE HAWAIIANS, AND NATIVE PACIFIC ISLANDERS. THESE STRATEGIES FACILITATE THE PRODUCTION OF WELL-PREPARED STUDENTS, HIGHLY QUALIFIED AND MOTIVATED TO PURSUE GRADUATE EDUCATION OR CAREERS IN STEM. THE NEED FOR CULTIVATING STEM TALENT HAS BEEN WELL ESTABLISHED. FOR THE UNITED STATES TO REMAIN GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE, IT IS VITAL THAT IT TAPS INTO THE TALENT OF ALL ITS CITIZENS AND PROVIDES EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL PREPAREDNESS IN STEM AREAS THAT UNDERPIN THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED ECONOMY. THE KEYSTONE LOUIS STOKES ALLIANCE FOR MINORITY PARTICIPATION STEM PATHWAYS IMPLEMENTATION-ONLY PROJECT IS COMPRISED OF FOUR OF THE TEN PENNSYLVANIA STATE SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION (PASSHE) INSTITUTIONS: EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY, MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY (LEAD), SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, AND WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY. THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO INCREASE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF STUDENTS FROM LSAMP POPULATIONS, AND ULTIMATELY INCREASE STEM B. S. DEGREES AND ENTRY INTO GRADUATE STEM PROGRAMS. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PROJECT GOALS, THE ALLIANCE WILL BUILD NEW STRENGTH IN AREAS OF RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION WHILE IMPROVING ON EXISTING STRENGTHS ALLIANCE WIDE. SPECIFIC STRATEGIES INCLUDE ANNUAL TWO TO THREE-WEEK SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAMS FOR ENTERING STUDENTS, ALLIANCE SPECIFIC CURRICULUM AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, RECURRING MULTI-COHORT SUMMER PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON RESEARCH PREPARATION FOR FUTURE RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATES OR INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, PREPARATION FOR WORK OR GRADUATE SCHOOL, FORMATIVE EVALUATION FOR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, AND SUMMATIVE EVALUATION TO SHOW IMPACT. SET IN THE CONTEXT OF LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES IN WEST VIRGINIA AND DELAWARE, THIS PROJECT AIMS TO FOSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF LOCAL WATERSHED ECOSYSTEMS, ADDRESSING CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES WHILE SPARKING INTEREST IN ENVIRONMENTAL-STEM (E-STEM) CAREERS. TO ACHIEVE THESE AIMS, THE PROJECT ENHANCES AN EXISTING SHARED WATERS CURRICULUM BY INTEGRATING LOCAL OUTDOOR LEARNING WITH NEW TOOLS INCLUDING AUGMENTED REALITY, MIXED REALITY, SIMULATIONS, AND COMPUTER MODELING TECHNOLOGIES. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WORKING IN SCHOOLS IN WEST VIRGINIA AND DELAWARE WILL GAIN ACCESS TO INNOVATIVE, INTERACTIVE TOOLS THAT EMPOWER STUDENTS TO BECOME INFORMED ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS AND ENGAGED LEARNERS IN STEM FIELDS. THE PROJECT WILL INVESTIGATE THE IMPACT OF SPATIAL COMPUTING TECHNOLOGIES ON STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES, ENGAGEMENT, AND INTEREST IN E-STEM CAREERS. RESEARCH QUESTIONS COMPARE THE PROVEN CURRICULUM (CONTROL) WITH THE ENHANCED SPATIAL COMPUTING CURRICULUM (EXPERIMENTAL) AND EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS AND SELECTABLE MIXED REALITY AVATARS ON STUDENT INTEREST IN E-STEM CAREERS. USING A QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, RESEARCHERS WILL EXPLORE HOW INTERACTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES AND CAREER AVATARS ENHANCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' COMPREHENSION OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CONTENT AND FOSTER INTEREST IN E-STEM CAREERS. MIXED METHODS, INCLUDING PRE/POST-ASSESSMENTS, FOCUS GROUPS, AND SPATIAL COMPUTING PLATFORM ANALYTICS, WILL EVALUATE THE PROJECT'S EFFECTIVENESS. PLANNED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE AN UPDATED SHARED WATERS CURRICULUM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MODULES FOR TEACHERS THAT ENABLE THEM TO IMPLEMENT THE CURRICULUM, AND WEB-BASED DISSEMINATION OF CURRICULUM RESOURCES. BY PROVIDING A SCALABLE MODEL FOR INTEGRATING SPATIAL COMPUTING INTO ELEMENTARY GRADE-LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, THIS PROJECT CONTRIBUTES TO EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY THE INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS (ITEST) PROGRAM, WHICH SUPPORTS PROJECTS THAT BUILD UNDERSTANDINGS OF PRACTICES, PROGRAM ELEMENTS, CONTEXTS AND PROCESSES CONTRIBUTING TO INCREASING STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE AND INTEREST IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) AND INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) CAREERS. STEM EDUCATORS WILL BE TRAINED AND SUPPORTED THROUGH A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL MODEL THAT PROMOTES CRITICAL SKILLS, SUCH AS CULTURAL COMPETENCY, ESSENTIAL FOR TEACHING EFFECTIVELY IN HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS. BY ENHANCING THE EDUCATION THESE STUDENTS RECEIVE, RETENTION IS LIKELY TO INCREASE, THUS IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF THE DIVERSE POPULATION STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE DISTRICTS AND MAKING THEM MORE LIKELY TO JOIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE STEM WORKFORCE. THIS MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY (MU) PROJECT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LANCASTER AND THE CITY OF YORK SCHOOL DISTRICT, AIMS TO RECRUIT AND TRAIN 15 UNDERGRADUATE STEM MAJORS TO BECOME HIGHLY EFFECTIVE STEM TEACHERS IN HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS. TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS, THE PROJECT WILL RELY ON THE INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT OF THE STEM EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD AND A STEM EDUCATION GRADUATE ASSISTANT. THE BROADER IMPACTS WILL ENHANCE EDUCATIONAL EFFICACY IN HIGH-NEED SCHOOLS, POTENTIALLY IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING AND LONG-TERM SUCCESS THE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE SCHOOLS. THE INTELLECTUAL MERIT OF THE PROJECT LIES IN DEVELOPING SKILLS AND CULTURAL COMPETENCY OF STEM TEACHERS THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN GROUP ACTIVITIES AND ATTENDANCE AT PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS AND EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCES. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EVALUATIONS WILL HELP DETERMINE WHICH ACTIVITIES HAVE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACT. THIS UTILIZATION-FOCUSED PROJECT WILL IDENTIFY KEY FACTORS IN RECRUITING STEM STUDENTS TO BECOME EDUCATORS, PREPARING HIGHLY EFFECTIVE EDUCATORS FOR HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS, AND SUPPORTING PRACTICING STEM TEACHERS. THIS TRACK 1: SCHOLARSHIPS AND STIPENDS PROJECT IS SUPPORTED THROUGH THE ROBERT NOYCE TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (NOYCE) AND IS PARTIALLY SUPPORTED BY FUNDS FROM MICRON FOUNDATION. PRE- AND POST-TRAINING KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT TESTS DEMONSTRATE THE INCREASE IN THE TRAINEE'S SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE. THE SUSAN HARWOOD TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM INCREASES WORKERS ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING TRAINING. INTENDED BENEFICIARY THE PROGRAM IS BENEFICIAL TO BOTH THE GRANTEE ORGANIZAITON AND TO WORKERS IN HIGH-HAZARD INDUSTRIES, INDUSTRIES WITH HIGH FATALITY RATES, OR INDUSTRIES WHERE WORKFORCES HAVE HISTORICALLY NOT HAD ADEQUATE ACCESS TO OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING. THE TRAINING AUDIENCE BENEFITING FROM THE TRAINING INCLUDES YOUNG, TEMPORARY, MINORITY , LOW LITERACY, LIMITED-ENGLISH SPEAKING, AND OTHER DISADVANTAGED AND HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS. INCREASED WORKER SAFETY BENEFITS THE WORKER COMMUNITIES. THE GRANTEE ORGANIZATION BENEFITS BY DEVELOPING/EXPANDING THEIR SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH MOST CONTINUING TO CONDUCT TRAINING CLASSES AFTER THE END OF THE GRANT. THESE BARRIERS WILL BE IDENTIFIED THROUGH STUDENT INTERVIEWS, FOCUS GROUPS, SURVEYS, AND INSTITUTIONAL DATA. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROJECT WILL BRING TOGETHER STEM AND EDUCATION FACULTY IN WORKING GROUPS TO UNDERSTAND THESE BARRIERS. FACULTY WILL DEVELOP ACTION PLANS TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC PATHWAYS AND INCREASE NUMBERS OF STEM STUDENTS PURSUING SECONDARY TEACHING CAREERS IN THE REGION. THIS PROJECT AT MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA INCLUDES PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN STEM AND EDUCATION FACULTY AT THE INSTITUTION. THE PROPOSED EFFORTS ARE IN RESPONSE TO RECENT DECLINES IN STUDENT COMPLETION OF STEM EDUCATION PATHWAYS. THE PROJECT WILL CREATE A FACULTY ADVISORY COUNCIL THAT WILL GUIDE ACTIVITIES AMONG FACULTY, ADVISORS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS STUDENTS' PERCEIVED BARRIERS TO PURSUING STEM TEACHING CAREERS. THE PROJECT WILL GATHER DATA FROM UNIVERSITY STEM STUDENTS THROUGH INTERVIEWS AND FOCUS GROUPS. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROJECT WILL CONVENE A 2-DAY ?ALL HANDS-ON? FORUM, WHICH WILL ENGAGE FACULTY IN THE ANALYSIS OF GATHERED DATA AND THE DESIGN OF ACTION PLANS TO IMPROVE STEM EDUCATION LEADING TO TEACHING CAREERS. EVALUATION WILL BE CONDUCTED BY AN EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST WITH LOCAL INSIGHT INTO THE CONTEXT. OUTCOMES FROM THIS PROJECT COULD PROVIDE FOUNDATIONAL GROUNDWORK FOR A FUTURE NOYCE TRACK 1 PROPOSAL. THIS CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT IS SUPPORTED THROUGH THE ROBERT NOYCE TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (NOYCE). THE NOYCE PROGRAM SUPPORTS TALENTED STEM UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS AND PROFESSIONALS TO BECOME EFFECTIVE K-12 STEM TEACHERS AND EXPERIENCED, EXEMPLARY K-12 TEACHERS TO BECOME STEM MASTER TEACHERS IN HIGH-NEED SCHOOL DISTRICTS. PARTICULAR EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON TRANSFORMING UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION THROUGH INNOVATIVE, EVIDENCE-BASED RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION STRATEGIES, AND RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN SUPPORT OF RACIAL AND ETHNIC GROUPS HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN STEM DISCIPLINES: BLACKS AND AFRICAN AMERICANS, HISPANIC AND LATINO AMERICANS, AMERICAN INDIANS, ALASKA NATIVES, NATIVE HAWAIIANS, AND NATIVE PACIFIC ISLANDERS. THESE STRATEGIES FACILITATE THE PRODUCTION OF WELL-PREPARED STUDENTS, HIGHLY QUALIFIED AND MOTIVATED TO PURSUE GRADUATE EDUCATION OR CAREERS IN STEM. THE NEED FOR CULTIVATING STEM TALENT HAS BEEN WELL ESTABLISHED. FOR THE UNITED STATES TO REMAIN GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE, IT IS VITAL THAT IT TAPS INTO THE TALENT OF ALL ITS CITIZENS AND PROVIDES EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATIONAL PREPAREDNESS IN STEM AREAS THAT UNDERPIN THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED ECONOMY. THE KEYSTONE LOUIS STOKES ALLIANCE FOR MINORITY PARTICIPATION STEM PATHWAYS IMPLEMENTATION-ONLY PROJECT IS COMPRISED OF FOUR OF THE TEN PENNSYLVANIA STATE SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION (PASSHE) INSTITUTIONS: EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY, MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY (LEAD), SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, AND WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY. THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO INCREASE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF STUDENTS FROM LSAMP POPULATIONS, AND ULTIMATELY INCREASE STEM B. S. DEGREES AND ENTRY INTO GRADUATE STEM PROGRAMS. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PROJECT GOALS, THE ALLIANCE WILL BUILD NEW STRENGTH IN AREAS OF RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION WHILE IMPROVING ON EXISTING STRENGTHS ALLIANCE WIDE. SET IN THE CONTEXT OF LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES IN WEST VIRGINIA AND DELAWARE, THIS PROJECT AIMS TO FOSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF LOCAL WATERSHED ECOSYSTEMS, ADDRESSING CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES WHILE SPARKING INTEREST IN ENVIRONMENTAL-STEM (E-STEM) CAREERS. TO ACHIEVE THESE AIMS, THE PROJECT ENHANCES AN EXISTING SHARED WATERS CURRICULUM BY INTEGRATING LOCAL OUTDOOR LEARNING WITH NEW TOOLS INCLUDING AUGMENTED REALITY, MIXED REALITY, SIMULATIONS, AND COMPUTER MODELING TECHNOLOGIES. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WORKING IN SCHOOLS IN WEST VIRGINIA AND DELAWARE WILL GAIN ACCESS TO INNOVATIVE, INTERACTIVE TOOLS THAT EMPOWER STUDENTS TO BECOME INFORMED ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS AND ENGAGED LEARNERS IN STEM FIELDS. THE PROJECT WILL INVESTIGATE THE IMPACT OF SPATIAL COMPUTING TECHNOLOGIES ON STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES, ENGAGEMENT, AND INTEREST IN E-STEM CAREERS. RESEARCH QUESTIONS COMPARE THE PROVEN CURRICULUM (CONTROL) WITH THE ENHANCED SPATIAL COMPUTING CURRICULUM (EXPERIMENTAL) AND EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS AND SELECTABLE MIXED REALITY AVATARS ON STUDENT INTEREST IN E-STEM CAREERS. MIXED METHODS, INCLUDING PRE/POST-ASSESSMENTS, FOCUS GROUPS, AND SPATIAL COMPUTING PLATFORM ANALYTICS, WILL EVALUATE THE PROJECT'S EFFECTIVENESS. PLANNED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE AN UPDATED SHARED WATERS CURRICULUM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MODULES FOR TEACHERS THAT ENABLE THEM TO IMPLEMENT THE CURRICULUM, AND WEB-BASED DISSEMINATION OF CURRICULUM RESOURCES. BY PROVIDING A SCALABLE MODEL FOR INTEGRATING SPATIAL COMPUTING INTO ELEMENTARY GRADE-LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, THIS PROJECT CONTRIBUTES TO EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY THE INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCES FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS (ITEST) PROGRAM, WHICH SUPPORTS PROJECTS THAT BUILD UNDERSTANDINGS OF PRACTICES, PROGRAM ELEMENTS, CONTEXTS AND PROCESSES CONTRIBUTING TO INCREASING STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE AND INTEREST IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) AND INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) CAREERS. DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE TEACHERS BY EXPANDING PARTNERSHIPS WITH HIGH-NEED SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATIONS -THE PROJECT AIMS TO ADDRESS THE PRESSING NATIONAL NEED FOR SECONDARY MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE TEACHERS BY RECRUITING STEM MAJORS INTO TEACHING CAREERS AND PREPARING THEM TO SUCCEED IN HIGH-NEED SCHOOLS WITH DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATIONS. THE PROJECT PARTNERS WITH SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN LANCASTER AND YORK COUNTIES, WHICH INCLUDE A DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATION, ALONG WITH OVER 400 REFUGEE STUDENTS SPEAKING MORE THAN 30 LANGUAGES. STEM EDUCATORS WILL BE TRAINED AND SUPPORTED THROUGH A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL MODEL THAT PROMOTES CRITICAL SKILLS, SUCH AS CULTURAL COMPETENCY, ESSENTIAL FOR TEACHING EFFECTIVELY IN HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS. BY ENHANCING THE EDUCATION THESE STUDENTS RECEIVE, RETENTION IS LIKELY TO INCREASE, THUS IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF THE DIVERSE POPULATION STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE DISTRICTS AND MAKING THEM MORE LIKELY TO JOIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE STEM WORKFORCE. THIS MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY (MU) PROJECT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LANCASTER AND THE CITY OF YORK SCHOOL DISTRICT, AIMS TO RECRUIT AND TRAIN 15 UNDERGRADUATE STEM MAJORS TO BECOME HIGHLY EFFECTIVE STEM TEACHERS IN HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS. TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS, THE PROJECT WILL RELY ON THE INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT OF THE STEM EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD AND A STEM EDUCATION GRADUATE ASSISTANT. THE BROADER IMPACTS WILL ENHANCE EDUCATIONAL EFFICACY IN HIGH-NEED SCHOOLS, POTENTIALLY IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING AND LONG-TERM SUCCESS THE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THESE SCHOOLS. THE INTELLECTUAL MERIT OF THE PROJECT LIES IN DEVELOPING SKILLS AND CULTURAL COMPETENCY OF STEM TEACHERS THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN GROUP ACTIVITIES AND ATTENDANCE AT PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS AND EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCES. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EVALUATIONS WILL HELP DETERMINE WHICH ACTIVITIES HAVE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACT. THIS UTILIZATION-FOCUSED PROJECT WILL IDENTIFY KEY FACTORS IN RECRUITING STEM STUDENTS TO BECOME EDUCATORS, PREPARING HIGHLY EFFECTIVE EDUCATORS FOR HIGH-NEED DISTRICTS, AND SUPPORTING PRACTICING STEM TEACHERS. THIS TRACK 1: SCHOLARSHIPS AND STIPENDS PROJECT IS SUPPORTED THROUGH THE ROBERT NOYCE TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (NOYCE) AND IS PARTIALLY SUPPORTED BY FUNDS FROM MICRON FOUNDATION. THE NOYCE PROGRAM SUPPORTS TALENTED STEM UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS AND PROFESSIONALS TO BECOME EFFECTIVE K-12 STEM TEACHERS AND EXPERIENCED, EXEMPLARY K-12 TEACHERS TO BECOME STEM MASTER TEACHERS IN HIGH-NEED SCHOOL DISTRICTS. THIS HELPS ENSURE SAFER WORKING ENVIRONMENTS FOR ALL WORKERS. THE PROGRAM ADVANCES THE JOB QUALITY OF THE AMERICAN WORKFORCE BY PROVIDING HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS HAZARD AWARENESS, AVOIDANCE, AND CONTROL TRAINING TO PROTECT THEM FROM ON-THE-JOB HAZARDS, AND TO INFORM WORKERS OF THEIR RIGHTS AND EMPLOYERS OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH) ACT. ACTIVITIES PERFORMED GRANTEES DEVELOP TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR AT RISK, HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS THAT TEACH THEM TO RECOGNIZE, AVOID, AND PREVENTS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS IN THEIR WORKPLACE AS WELL AS INFORM THEM ABOUT THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION'S (OSHA) WHISTLEBLOWER PROGRAM. DELIVERABLES GRANTEES MUST TRAIN WORKERS FROM MULTIPLE EMPLOYERS AND/OR DEVELOP TRAINING MATERIALS ON WORKPLACE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS. PRE- AND POST-TRAINING KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT TESTS DEMONSTRATE THE INCREASE IN THE TRAINEE'S SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE. THE SUSAN HARWOOD TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM INCREASES WORKERS ACCESS TO LIFE-SAVING TRAINING. INTENDED BENEFICIARY THE PROGRAM IS BENEFICIAL TO BOTH THE GRANTEE ORGANIZAITON AND TO WORKERS IN HIGH-HAZARD INDUSTRIES, INDUSTRIES WITH HIGH FATALITY RATES, OR INDUSTRIES WHERE WORKFORCES HAVE HISTORICALLY NOT HAD ADEQUATE ACCESS TO OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH TRAINING. THE TRAINING AUDIENCE BENEFITING FROM THE TRAINING INCLUDES YOUNG, TEMPORARY, MINORITY , LOW LITERACY, LIMITED-ENGLISH SPEAKING, AND OTHER DISADVANTAGED AND HARD-TO-REACH WORKERS. INCREASED WORKER SAFETY BENEFITS THE WORKER COMMUNITIES. THE GRANTEE ORGANIZATION BENEFITS BY DEVELOPING/EXPANDING THEIR SAFETY AND HEALTH KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WITH MOST CONTINUING TO CONDUCT TRAINING CLASSES AFTER THE END OF THE GRANT. THIS ALLOW FOR A GREATER OUTREACH TO UNDERSERVED WORKERS. SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES NONE - GRANTEES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUBAWARD GRANT FUNDS TO OTHERS TO COMPLETE THE GRANT ACTIVITIES.

THESE BARRIERS WILL BE IDENTIFIED THROUGH STUDENT INTERVIEWS, FOCUS GROUPS, SURVEYS, AND INSTITUTIONAL DATA. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROJECT WILL BRING TOGETHER STEM AND EDUCATION FACULTY IN WORKING GROUPS TO UNDERSTAND THESE BARRIERS. FACULTY WILL DEVELOP ACTION PLANS TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC PATHWAYS AND INCREASE NUMBERS OF STEM STUDENTS PURSUING SECONDARY TEACHING CAREERS IN THE REGION. THIS PROJECT AT MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA INCLUDES PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN STEM AND EDUCATION FACULTY AT THE INSTITUTION. THE PROPOSED EFFORTS ARE IN RESPONSE TO RECENT DECLINES IN STUDENT COMPLETION OF STEM EDUCATION PATHWAYS. THE PROJECT WILL CREATE A FACULTY ADVISORY COUNCIL THAT WILL GUIDE ACTIVITIES AMONG FACULTY, ADVISORS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS STUDENTS' PERCEIVED BARRIERS TO PURSUING STEM TEACHING CAREERS. THE PROJECT WILL GATHER DATA FROM UNIVERSITY STEM STUDENTS THROUGH INTERVIEWS AND FOCUS GROUPS. ADDITIONALLY, THE PROJECT WILL CONVENE A 2-DAY ?ALL HANDS-ON? FORUM, WHICH WILL ENGAGE FACULTY IN THE ANALYSIS OF GATHERED DATA AND THE DESIGN OF ACTION PLANS TO IMPROVE STEM EDUCATION LEADING TO TEACHING CAREERS. EVALUATION WILL BE CONDUCTED BY AN EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST WITH LOCAL INSIGHT INTO THE CONTEXT. OUTCOMES FROM THIS PROJECT COULD PROVIDE FOUNDATIONAL GROUNDWORK FOR A FUTURE NOYCE TRACK 1 PROPOSAL. THIS CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT IS SUPPORTED THROUGH THE ROBERT NOYCE TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (NOYCE).
