TOGETHER, THESE THREE LOCAL VOLUNTEER CENTERS ARE COMMITTED TO SHARING RESOURCES TO LEVERAGE SENIOR VOLUNTEERS ACROSS THE METROPOLITAN NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGION. THIS INNOVATIVE, COLLABORATIVE STRUCTURE IS KNOWN AS RSVP NORTHERN VIRGINIA (RSVP-NV), AND HAS PROVEN TO BE AN EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO REGIONALIZATION. THE THREE PARTNERING VOLUNTEER CENTERS HAVE BEEN SERVING THEIR COMMUNITIES FOR A COMBINED TOTAL OF MORE THAN 100 YEARS AND HAVE DEEP-SEATED RELATIONSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING ITS VOLUNTEERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AND THE NONPROFIT SECTOR. EACH HAS INDEPENDENTLY IDENTIFIED THE CONTINUED NEED TO ENGAGE IN TARGETED OUTREACH TO THE 55+ RESIDENTS FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES. THIS GRANT WILL ENABLE RSVP-NV TO CONTINUE ENGAGING AND PLACING SENIOR VOLUNTEERS IN MEANINGFUL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. OUR ORGANIZATION WILL CONCENTRATE ON SIX CNCS FOCUS AREAS: * HEALTHY FUTURES-OBESITY AND FOOD: NUTRITION/FOOD SUPPORT (FUNDING PRIORITY: ADDRESSING FOOD INSECURITY-HEALTHY FUTURES) (PRIMARY FOCUS) * EDUCATION-K-12 SUCCESS: TUTORING (NEW THIS GRANT CYCLE) * HEALTHY FUTURES-AGING IN PLACE: COMPANIONSHIP (FUNDING PRIORITY: AGING IN PLACE-INDEPENDENT LIVING) * HEALTHY FUTURES-AGING IN PLACE: TRANSPORTATION (FUNDING PRIORITY: AGING IN PLACE-INDEPENDENT LIVING) * HEALTHY FUTURES-AGING IN PLACE: NUTRITION/FOOD SUPPORT (FUNDING PRIORITY: AGING IN PLACE-INDEPENDENT LIVING) * ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY-FINANCIAL LITERACY: FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION A MINIMUM OF 75 VOLUNTEERS WILL SUPPORT OUR PRIMARY FOCUS AREA BY PROVIDING FOOD DISTRIBUTION, FOOD COLLECTION, AND FOOD PANTRY SUPPORT. BY THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, AT LEAST 1,200 INDIVIDUALS WILL HAVE RECEIVED EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPORT OR OTHER FOOD SECURITY SERVICES FROM FOOD BANKS, FOOD PANTRIES, AND OTHER NONPROFITS THAT WILL RESULT IN INCREASED FOOD SECURITY OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN. WE HAVE ADDED A NEW FOCUS AREA FOR THE 2021-2024 GRANT CYCLE: EDUCATION-K-12 SUCCESS: TUTORING. WE WILL RECRUIT 16 VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS TUTORS IN A CLASSROOM/CLASSROOM SETTING OR ONLINE. RSVP-NV VOLUNTEERS HAVE PROVEN EAGER TO SERVE IN THIS CAPACITY, AND WE ARE WORKING WITH OTHER PARTNERS TO INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES IN THIS FOCUS AREA. AT LEAST 46 VOLUNTEERS WILL SUPPORT HEALTHY FUTURES-AGING-IN-PLACE-INDEPENDENT LIVING, BY PROVIDING MEALS, TRANSPORTATION, AND COMPANIONSHIP TO OLDER ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY. AT LEAST 18 VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST WITH FURTHERING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL LITERACY TO BOTH STUDENTS AND ADULTS ACROSS THE REGION. THESE SIX FOCUS AREAS WILL PROVIDE 155 UNDUPLICATED VOLUNTEERS IN OUTCOME-BASED WORK PLANS. BY APPLYING AN UNDERSTANDING OF GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES IN VOLUNTEER MOTIVATION, RSVP PROGRAM STAFF HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CREATE AND IMPLEMENT COMMUNICATION/MARKETING STRATEGIES THAT APPEAL TO THE TARGET POPULATION. THIS GRANT WILL ENABLE RSVP-NV TO CONTINUE ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING OLDER VOLUNTEERS. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES, SPECIFICALLY OBESITY AND FOOD.
