HARVEY COUNTY DRUG COURT EXPANSION - ON BEHALF OF THE HARVEY COUNTY DRUG COURT (ADULT TREATMENT DRUG COURT), WE ARE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE WITH THE EXPANSION OF OUR EXISTING DRUG COURT OPERATIONS. THIS FUNDING WOULD ALLOW THE HCDC TO EXPAND TO SERVE 30 PARTICIPANTS ANNUALLY, OR A TOTAL OF 128 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. THE HCDC’S POPULATION OF FOCUS ARE ADULT NON-VIOLENT FELONY OFFENDERS WHOSE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY IS KNOWN OR SUSPECTED TO BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE ONGOING OR HABITUAL ABUSE OF SUBSTANCES. WITHOUT INTERVENTION, TARGETED PARTICIPANTS WILL LIKELY CONTINUE TO COMMIT CRIMES AND RE-ENTER THE JUSTICE SYSTEM OR HAVE OTHER SERIOUS, NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES AS A RESULT. PARTICIPANTS WHO ARE HIGH NEED AND HIGH RISK, AS DEFINED BY NCDI RECEIVE PRIORITY FOR ADMISSION TO DRUG COURT. EXPANSION OF THE HCDC WOULD ALLOW US TO SERVE MORE INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN DRUG-RELATED CRIME. FUNDING WOULD ALSO BE USED TO ADDRESS EXISTING GAPS IN SERVICES TO INCLUDE ASSISTING PARTICIPANTS IN FURTHERING THEIR EDUCATION AND/OR GAINING STABLE EMPLOYMENT AND INCREASING STABILITY OF INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH PROMOTION OF PROSOCIAL ACTIVITIES. THE HCDC WILL ALSO ASSIST WITH ACCESS TO RECOVERY HOUSING (THROUGH DEPOSIT AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE), AND ACCESS TO TRANSPORTATION. MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT (MAT) WOULD ALSO BE PROVIDED FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES FOR THE MEDICATION. THE HCDC ENDEAVORS TO ASSIST PARTICIPANTS IN STOPPING THE CYCLE OF CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY, INCREASE COMMUNITY SAFETY BY REDUCING CRIMES RELATED TO DRUG USE AND ABUSE, ASSIST PARTICIPANTS IN FURTHERING THEIR EDUCATION AND/OR GAINING STABLE EMPLOYMENT, INCREASE STABILITY OF INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH FAMILY AND OTHERS, PROVIDE RESOURCES TO PARTICIPANTS TO ENSURE CONTINUED PROGRESS, COLLECT APPROPRIATE PAYMENTS FOR COURT-RELATED FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS, OFFER IMMEDIATE AND EFFECTIVE REWARDS, SANCTIONS, AND TREATMENT PROGRAMMING, AND ASSURE THAT PARTICIPANTS BEGIN THE PROGRAM SWIFTLY FOLLOWING SENTENCING.
