OLOHANA INC. WILL ADDRESS CRITICAL FOOD PROCESSING NEEDS ON HAWAII ISLAND AND BOLSTER THE PROFITABILITY OF LOCAL FARMERS. LEVERAGING INDUSTRIAL JUICING EQUIPMENT THE PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON THE PILOT PRODUCTION OF TWO NEW FRUIT PRODUCTS UTILIZING LOCALLY SOURCED CROPS. THESE PRODUCTS WILL BE DIRECTLY DISTRIBUTED TO THE LOCAL FOOD SYSTEM THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE FOOD BASKET HAWAII ISLANDS FOOD BANK AND THE HAWAII FARM TO CAR FARMERS MARKET CREATING A MIDTIER VALUE CHAIN INFRASTRUCTURE. THE PROJECT ANTICIPATES BENEFITING APPROXIMATELY 33 LOCAL FRUIT PRODUCERS INCLUDING THOSE WHO CURRENTLY UTILIZE BGRADE CROPS THEREBY REDUCING ONFARM FOOD WASTE. FURTHERMORE THE INITIATIVE IS EXPECTED TO REACH AN ESTIMATED 452 LOCAL CONSUMERS PROVIDING THEM WITH AN ACCESSIBLE AND LOCALLY PRODUCED FOOD OPTION. BY FACILITATING THE AGGREGATION PROCESSING AND DISTRIBUTION OF THESE FRUITS THE PROJECT AIMS TO STRENGTHEN THE OVERALL CAPACITY OF THE BIG ISLANDS AGRICULTURAL SECTOR AND PROVIDE A VIABLE MARKET FOR FARMERS. THE PROJECTS OBJECTIVE IS TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMIC VIABILITY FOR FARMERS WHILE EXPANDING ACCESS TO FRESH LOCAL FOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY.
