SPOONFULS IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT FACILITATES THE RECOVERY AND DISTRIBUTION OF HEALTHY, PERISHABLE FOOD THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE DISCARDED. SPOONFULS WORKS EFFICIENTLY TO DELIVER THIS FOOD DIRECTLY TO THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND RESOURCES WHERE IT CAN HAVE THE GREATEST IMPACT. SPOONFULS IS COMMITTED TO ADDRESSING THE HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT THAT FOOD WASTE HAS ON OUR COMMUNITY. HEADQUARTED IN BOSTON, MA, SPOONFULS IS A 501(C)(3), NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. THE PLENTY PROGRAM AT SPOONFULS WILL PROVIDE BENEFICIARIES AND THOSE THAT THEY SERVE WITH THE EDUCATION, TOOLS AND KNOW-HOW THEY NEED TO STORE, PREPARE AND FURTHER UTILIZE THE FOOD THAT WE DELIVER TO THEM. THE PRIMARY GOALS INCLUDE FRESH, RESOURCEFUL PREPARATION AND THE SIMULTANEOUS EFFICIENCY AND MINIMIZATION OF KITCHEN WASTE AND EXCESS.

DESCRIPTION:THE PURPOSE OF THIS COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT IS TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO LUVIN' SPOONFULS TO DIVERT FOOD WASTE FROM LANDFILLS BY SUPPORTING AND EXPANDING A NETWORK 80 VENDOR PARTNERS AND 178 NONPROFIT PARTNERS IN MASSACHUSETTS.ACTIVITIES:THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO COORDINATE, EDUCATE, AND HELP GROCERY STORES AND FARMS DONATE HEALTHY, NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO SENIOR CENTERS, FOOD PANTRIES, MEAL PROGRAMS, YOUTH AND SENIOR CENTERS, TRANSITION SHELTERS, AND ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTERS.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:EXPECTED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE THE RESCUE OF 195,000 POUNDS OF EXCESS FOOD THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE DESTINED FOR LANDFILLS OR COMPOSTING FACILITIES. IN TURN, THE NONPROFIT PARTNERS DELIVER AND SERVE THE FOOD TO 15,500 PEOPLE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY IN GREATER BOSTON, HAMPDEN COUNTY, AND WORCESTER COUNTY.
