AT THE END OF THE FIRST PROGRAM YEAR, FOODCORPS AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MEASURABLY IMPROVED CHILDREN'S PREFERENCE FOR AND BEHAVIOR TOWARD EATING HEALTHY FOODS, THEREBY MEETING THE CRITICAL NUTRITIONAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND ADDRESSING THE HEALTH PROBLEMS THAT HOLD CHILDREN BACK FROM REACHING THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. IN ADDITION, AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL LEVERAGE 2,000 VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL BE ENGAGED IN PROMOTING HEALTHY FOODS TO CHILDREN AND SUPPORTING LONG-TERM, HEALTHY CHANGES TO THE SCHOOL FOOD ENVIRONMENTS THAT AFFECT CHILDREN'S DIETARY BEHAVIOR. AFTER THEIR YEAR OF SERVICE, AT LEAST 40 FOODCORPS AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL PURSUE FUTURE ENGAGEMENT IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH SECTOR.

AT THE END OF THE FIRST PROGRAM YEAR, THE AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MEASURABLY IMPROVING CHILDREN'S PREFERENCE FOR AND BEHAVIOR TOWARD EATING HEALTHY FOODS, THEREBY OVERCOMING A KEY BARRIER IN ADDRESSING THE NATION'S COSTLY EPIDEMIC OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY AND OTHER DIET-RELATED DISEASES. IN ADDITION, THE AMERICORPS MEMBERS WILL LEVERAGE AN ADDITIONAL 4,150 VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL BE ENGAGED IN PROMOTING HEALTHY FOODS TO CHILDREN AND SUPPORTING LONG-TERM, HEALTHY CHANGES TO THE SCHOOL FOOD ENVIRONMENTS THAT AFFECT CHILDREN'S DIETARY BEHAVIOR. THIS PROGRAM WILL FOCUS ON THE CNCS FOCUS AREA OF HEALTHY FUTURES. THE CNCS FIXED AMOUNT INVESTMENT OF $1,423,884 WILL BE MATCHED WITH $3,928,170 IN PRIVATE FUNDING FROM INDIVIDUALS, CORPORATE PARTNERS, AND PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, INCLUDING COMMITMENTS ALREADY SECURED VIA THE W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION AND WILLIAM K. BOWES FOUNDATION.
