FLOYD COUNTY, INDIANA - DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES SUPPORT PROGRAM - THE FLOYD COUNTY ATOD TASK FORCE IS WORKING TO REDUCE ALCOHOL, CANNABIS, AND TOBACCO USE (INCLUDING VAPING) AMONG YOUTH IN FLOYD COUNTY, INDIANA. WITH SUPPORT FROM THE DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT, THE ATOD TASK FORCE PARTNERS WITH SCHOOLS, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO PREVENT YOUTH SUBSTANCE USE AND PROMOTE HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES THROUGH EVIDENCE-BASED PREVENTION PROGRAMMING THAT PROVIDES DIRECT SKILL-BUILDING TO YOUTH IN 8TH AND 12TH GRADES. WE WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO EDUCATE PARENTS AND GUARDIANS ABOUT THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL, CANNABIS, AND TOBACCO, ON OUR YOUTH WITH EVIDENCE-BASED COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND EVENTS, AND A COMMUNITY PARENT/GUARDIAN INITIATIVE THAT PROMOTES BETTER INTERACTION WITHIN FAMILIES. RAISING OUR CHILDREN’S KIDS (R.O.C.K.) WILL ALSO NURTURE THE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT OF THOSE FAMILIES WITH KINDRED OR GRANDPARENT PLACEMENT THAT NEED EXTRA SUPPORT IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT GENERATIONAL SUBSTANCE USE. BY ENGAGING YOUTH, WE WILL MAGNIFY THEIR VIEW OF THEIR ENVIRONMENTS USING A PHOTOGRAPHY-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH PROJECT. WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR COMMUNITY POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT GOVERN ACCESS TO THESE PRODUCTS BY OUR YOUTH THROUGH OUR ALCOHOL STICKER SHOCK AND DORA (DESIGNATED OUTDOOR REFRESHMENT AREA) CAMPAIGNS, WHILE PROMOTING RESTORATIVE POLICIES FOR OUR YOUTH WHO GET CAUGHT USING SUBSTANCES (VIOLATING SCHOOL POLICIES). THE TASK FORCE WILL ORGANIZE AND EXECUTE TWO DRUG TAKE BACK DAYS, WHICH WILL PROMOTE SAFE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED HOUSEHOLD DRUGS. AN ANNUAL DRUG FACT WEEK THAT WILL FOCUS ON PREVENTION, TREATMENT, AND RECOVERY WILL DRAW ATTENTION TO THE WORK OF THE TASK FORCE WHILE PROVIDING VALUABLE INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE CONCERNS AROUND YOUTH SUBSTANCE USE AND THE IMPACT OF ADULT SUBSTANCE USE ON YOUTH. THESE COMMUNITY-WIDE EFFORTS ARE FOCUSED ON CREATING A SAFER, STRONGER ENVIRONMENT FOR FLOYD COUNTY’S YOUTH IN YEAR 6 OF DFC FUNDING. PAGE 2
