THIS INITIATIVE ADDRESSES THE CRITICAL NEED FOR SPECIALIZED SERVICES AS INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TRANSITION FROM PEDIATRIC TO ADULT HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS. UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI, ALONG WITH ITS PARENT ENTITY, UC HEALTH, IS PIONEERING THIS EFFORT AS ONE OF THE NATION’S FIRST ACADEMIC SYSTEMS TO OFFER SUCH A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM. UC HEALTH IS COMMITTED TO CONSTRUCTING A STATE-OF-THE-ART OUTPATIENT FACILITY DESIGNED TO CATER TO THE UNIQUE PHYSICAL AND SENSORY NEEDS OF ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THE $3 MILLION APPROPRIATED THROUGH COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING/CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING (CPF/CDS) WILL SIGNIFICANTLY SUPPORT UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI MEDICAL CENTER’S INITIATIVE TO DEVELOP THE TIMOTHY FREEMAN, MD, CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND WILL PLAY A PIVOTAL ROLE IN ENSURING THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE CENTER. THE TIMOTHY FREEMAN, MD, CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WILL OFFER STATE OF THE ART, PERSON CENTERED, COORDINATED CARE FOR ADULTS WITH COMPLEX DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. SPANNING AN EXPANSIVE 15,000 SQUARE FEET, THE FACILITY IS THOUGHTFULLY ARRANGED WITH PRIMARY CARE, SPECIALTY CARE, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, ALL CONVENIENTLY SITUATED ON THE GROUND LEVEL. DESIGNED WITH THE UTMOST SENSITIVITY, EVERY PUBLIC AREA, EXAMINATION ROOM, AND TREATMENT SPACE IS FREE OF BARRIERS, ENSURING EASE OF ACCESS AND A WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE FOR BOTH PATIENTS AND STAFF, PARTICULARLY THOSE WITH SENSORY AND MOBILITY CONSIDERATIONS. THE FACILITY INCLUDES TWELVE PRIMARY CARE EXAM ROOMS, EACH STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE ABUNDANT NATURAL LIGHT FROM THE NUMEROUS WINDOWS.
