THE JIMMIE RODGERS MUSEUM WILL BRING MERIDIAN’S MUSICAL HERITAGE INTO CLASSROOMS THROUGH A TRAVELING EXHIBIT, YOUTH WORKSHOPS, AND A COMMUNITY ORAL HISTORY INITIATIVE. PORTABLE EXHIBIT PANELS AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS WILL INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE LEGACY OF JIMMIE RODGERS AND MERIDIAN’S ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF AMERICAN MUSIC. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO DOCUMENT APPROXIMATELY 15–20 ORAL HISTORY INTERVIEWS WITH MUSICIANS, FESTIVAL PARTICIPANTS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS CONNECTED TO THE HISTORIC JIMMIE RODGERS MUSIC FESTIVAL. PROJECT OUTCOMES INCLUDE AN ORAL HISTORY ARCHIVE AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS THAT WILL SUPPORT FUTURE MUSEUM INTERPRETATION, OUTREACH PROGRAMMING, AND RESEARCH. PRIMARY BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE K–12 STUDENTS, RESEARCHERS, AND MUSEUM VISITORS.
