IT HAS ADMINISTERED THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM (SCP) IN THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI AREA FIRST WITH THE WESTPORT COOPERATIVE CENTER AND LATER THE SHEPHERD?S CENTER OF KC CENTRAL SINCE 1981. SCC IS REQUESTING FUNDING TO CONTINUE ITS MISSION AND SPONSORSHIP OF THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM. AN ESTIMATED 61 SENIOR COMPANION (SC) VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER, ALL 61 WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE NOT ONLY COMPANIONSHIP AND RESPITE BUT ALSO ASSISTING SENIORS AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO STAY IN THEIR OWN HOMES. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS HEALTHY FUTURES AND AGING IN PLACE. SCCS GOAL IS TO INCREASE SENIORS? AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES ABILITY TO REMAIN IN THEIR OWN HOMES WITH THE SAME OR IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.
