BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: THE SOUTH CENTRAL OHIO MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT INITIATIVE (SCOMATI) IS AN INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATIVE EFFORT FORMED TO ESTABLISH 17 NEW MAT ACCESS POINTS AND INCREASE THE CAPACITY FOR SUSTAINABLE MAT SERVICE PROVISION IN TARGETED RURAL AREAS. T HESE TARGETED AREAS ARE ROSS, PIKE, AND FAYETTE COUNTIES, ALL OF WHICH ARE FULLY APPALACHIAN COUNTIES IN OHIO AS DESIGNATED BY HRSA. SCOMATI IS COMPRISED OF A DEDICATED GROUP OF TREATMENT SERVICE PROVIDERS, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES PROVIDING CARE AND REFERRALS, AND OPIOID TREATMENT AND RECOVERY INITIATIVES. USING THE RESOURCES AND EXISTING RCORP SERVICES AND THE FOUR REQUIRED GOALS OF THE RCORP-MAT PROGRAM, THE INITIATIVE WILL IMPLEMENT FOUR OVERARCHING, RESEARCH-BASED STRATEGIES WITH SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES AND MEASURABLE OUTCOMES TO ADDRESS A LACK OF MAT ACCESS POINTS AND CREATE A RECOVERY ECOSYSTEM THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ALL OF THE ISSUES FACING THOSE INVOLVED IN THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF OUD. THESE STRATEGIES ARE TO ESTABLISH NEW MAT ACCESS POINTS IN THE TARGETED SERVICE AREA, FOCUSING ON PHARMACIES, SCHOOLS, CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, AND ADULT PAROLE REENTRY AND SERVICE GROUPS, ENHANCE THE REGIONAL MAT WORKFORCE THROUGH EDUCATION AND TRAINING BY PROVIDING A CURRICULUM TO TRAIN MEMBERS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY, HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, PHARMACISTS, AND CLIENTS, IMPROVE EXISTING AND BUILD NEW COMMUNITY CAPACITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE TO ADDRESS GAPS IN MAT ACCESS, AND CREATE AND SUPPORT THE SUSTAINABILITY OF SCOMATI BY IMPROVING HEALTHCARE AND TREATMENT BUSINESS PRACTICES.
