THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO SUPPORT THE ONGOING CONSERVATION EFFORTS IN THE NORTHERN TROPICAL ANDES OF PERU, IMPLEMENTING A CONSERVATION CORRIDOR SPANNING OVER 500,000 ACRES. NATURE AND CULTURE INTERNATIONAL (NCI) WILL WORK WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AUTHORITIES, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO CONSOLIDATE AND PROMOTE THE UTCUBAMBA HUAYABAMBA CONSERVATION CORRIDOR. SPECIFIC ACTIONS INCLUDE: (1) PROMOTING THE GOOD GOVERNANCE OF THIS CORRIDOR THROUGH THE CREATION OF A COORDINATION COMMITTEE AND MANAGEMENT PLAN (2) STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF LOCAL CONSERVATION AREAS (3) GENERATION OF SUSTAINABLE FINANCING MECHANISMS FOR THE FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY OF THE CORRIDOR (4) WORKING WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES FOR THE ADOPTION OF GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD ALTERNATIVES WITH A LINK TO VALUE CHAINS THAT REDUCE PRESSURE ON THE ECOSYSTEMS OF THE CORRIDOR.

ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: (1) ESTABLISH TWO TECHNICAL CONSERVATION-FOCUSED WORKING GROUPS WITH WORK PLANS TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNANCE OF THE CCPY (2) TRAIN LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS TO PRODUCE BIODIVERSITY DATA TO INFORM DECISION-MAKING (3) TRAIN AND EQUIP STRATEGIC LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS FOR INTEGRATED FIRE MANAGEMENT (4) FORM AT LEAST FIVE FIRE BRIGADES IN PRIORITIZED COMMUNITIES OF THE CCPY AND AN INTERINSTITUTIONAL FIRE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
