THIS PARTNERS FOR FISH AND WILDLIFE PROJECT WILL ENHANCE 49.7 ACRES OF WETLAND HABITAT IN MASON COUNTY, ILLINOIS. THE PROJECTS OBJECTIVE IS TO RESTORE FLOODPLAIN WETLANDS AND INCREASE BIODIVERSITY ON THE LARGEST ISLAND IN THE ILLINOIS RIVER. GRAND ISLAND SERVES AS VALUABLE HABITAT FOR RESIDENT AND MIGRATING SPECIES THAT DEPEND ON THE RICH HABITAT DIVERSITY OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER VALLEY. THIS PROJECT INVOLVES GRINDING AND OR CUTTING ENCROACHING WOODY AND HERBACEOUS VEGETATION TO ALLOW SUNLIGHT TO REACH TO SOIL SURFACE AND PROMOTE ANNUAL MOIST-SOIL VEGETATION BENEFICIAL TO MIGRATORY WATERFOWL AND OTHER WATER BIRDS. A HEAVY OFFSET DISK WILL BE USED TO DESTROY THE WOODY VEGETATION AND STIMULATE ANNUAL SEED PRODUCTION. THE SERVICE IS ASSISTING WITH THE REMOVAL AND TREATMENT OF WOODY VEGETATION AND USE OF A DOZER AND OTHER CAPABLE EQUIPMENT TO PULL A HEAVY OFFSET DISK ACROSS SITE.
