PROJECT PURPOSE: THE DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY "CONNECTING MINDS & TECHNOLOGY: ENHANCING CROSS-CAMPUS DIGITAL LITERACY WITH HANDS-ON INITIATIVES" CMT) PROJECT WILL ENABLE DU TO BRING ITS BROADBAND AND IIT CAPACITY UP TO A ROBUST LEVEL, EXPAND INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY FOR BROADBAND AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, AND BUILD DIGITAL SKILLS AND IT WORKFORCE CAPACITY THROUGH ENHANCED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TECHNOLOGY TRAINING, AND STUDENT WORKFORCE PROGRAMS.ACTIVITIES: DU WILL IMPLEMENT FUTURE-PROOF INFRASTRUCTURE ACROSS ITS 30-ACRE CAMPUS - REPLACING NETWORK AND SERVER EQUIPMENT, UPGRADING COMPUTER TERMINALS AND OTHER CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY. DU WILL DISTRIBUTE HOTSPOTS TO GIVE DU STUDENTS HIGH-SPEED, RELIABLE ACCESS TO REMOTE AND "HYFLEX" (HYBRID AND FLEXIBLE) LEARNING. DU WILL AUGMENT TECHNOLOGY TRAINING IN ITS CURRICULUM AND COURSE OFFERINGS. DU WILL IMPLEMENT FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS AND WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS TO GAIN INDUSTRY-STANDARD MICRO-CREDENTIALS. DU WILL ALIGN THESE EFFORTS WITH WORKFORCE TECHNOLOGY NEEDS, PARTICULARLY IN THE CHICAGO REGION WHERE MANY DU STUDENTS CHOOSE TO REMAIN FOLLOWING DEGREE COMPLETION. TRAININGS WILL TAKE PLACE IN DU'S WEATHERTECH INNOVATION LAB, A CENTRAL SPACE FOR STUDENTS TO EXPLORE AND LEARN SOFTWARE AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES. DU ALSO WILL PROVIDE DIRECT IT CAREER PREPARATION ACTIVITIES THROUGH A STUDENT TECHNOLOGY CORPS.OUTCOMES: AS A RESULT OF IMPLEMENTING THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES, THE FOLLOWING OUTCOMES WILL BE MET. THE UNIVERSITY BROADBAND AND IT CAPACITY WILL BE UPGRADED, AND UNIVERSITY INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT WILL BE ENHANCED - A RECENT COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT FOUND THAT DU'S BROADBAND CAPABILITIES AND CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY ARE AT LEAST SEVEN YEARS OUT OF DATE. STUDENT ATTAINMENT OF LABOR MARKET CERTIFICATIONS IN CORRESPONDING IT INDUSTRY AREAS WILL INCREASE, AND FACULTY KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCY IN SOFTWARE TOOLS AND DIGITAL SKILLS WILL IMPROVE. ADDRESSING TECHNOLOGY GAPS THROUGH AN INNOVATIVE, TARGETED APPROACH WILL STRENGTHEN DU'S COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVITY AND ENRICH TECHNOLOGY EQUITY FOR ALL CURRENT AND FUTURE DU STUDENTS. BENEFICIARIES: THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO BENEFIT FACULTY AND STUDENTS AT DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY, LOCATED IN COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS. STUDENTS AND FACULTY WILL BENEFIT FROM THE UPGRADED ON-CAMPUS BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE, AND OFF-CAMPUS HOTSPOTS, WHICH WILL PROVIDE HIGH-SPEED, RELIABLE ACCESS TO REMOTE AND HYBRID INSTRUCTION. PROJECT PURPOSE: DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY NEW YORK - DC CONNECTION: BUILDING BROADBAND AND IT CAPACITY PROJECT AIMS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO RELIABLE TECHNOLOGY AND STABLE INTERNET ON CAMPUS AND WITHIN CAMPUS BUILDINGS, UPDATE LEARNING SYSTEMS, AND IMPROVE STUDENT TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT TECHNOLOGICAL FLUENCY AND STUDENT SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN PROFESSIONAL PURSUITS. ACTIVITIES: THE DC CONNECTION PROJECT WILL: (1) EXPAND INTERNET ACCESS ON CAMPUS BY ADDING MORE WIRELESS ACCESS POINTS IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS ACROSS CAMPUS; (2) PROVIDE SUBSIDIZE BROADBAND ACCESS AND EQUIPMENT SUCH AS HOTSPOT ACCESS EQUIPMENT, WI-FI EXTENDERS, AND HEADPHONES TO BE LENT TO DC STUDENTS FOR LONG-TERM USE; (3) HIRE TWO ADDITIONAL IT STAFF MEMBERS TO SUPPORT TRAINING MATERIALS AND TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO LEVERAGE TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES TOWARD ACHIEVING ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND THAT FACULTY AND STAFF ARE BEST POSITIONED TO USE TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE AND ARE ABLE TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL ISSUES; AND (4) PURCHASE VIDEO CAMERAS AND PODCASTING EQUIPMENT THAT CAN BE USED TO FACILITATE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGY IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS ON CAMPUS AND ENHANCE REMOTE LEARNING TO IMPROVE DIGITAL SKILLS AND IT WORKFORCE CAPACITY. OUTCOMES:AS A RESULT OF IMPLEMENTING THE ACTIVITIES, STUDENTS WILL REPORT FEWER PROBLEMS WITH ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY OR THE INTERNET, AND STUDENTS ACCESSING SUPPORT SERVICES WILL INCREASE. FACULTY MEMBERS WILL DEMONSTRATE SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES IN CONFIDENCE IN THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM AND FOR ADMINISTRATIVE/REPORTING FUNCTIONS AND WILL DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SYSTEM USE FOR STUDENT SUCCESS. FINALLY, THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO WILL DEMONSTRATE BASIC DIGITAL FLUENCY. BENEFICIARIES: THE DC CONNECTION PROJECT WILL HELP STUDENTS, AND ESPECIALLY LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATE ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL WORK IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD OR TO SUCCEED IN REMOTE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS. THIS PROJECT WILL ALSO BENEFIT THE LARGER LOCAL, REGIONAL, AND NATIONAL COMMUNITIES IN ORANGEBURG, NEW YORK. RETAINING AND GRADUATING LOW-INCOME BIOLOGY STUDENTS IN STEM THROUGH CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC ACADEMIC SUPPORT -THIS PROJECT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE NATIONAL NEED FOR WELL-EDUCATED SCIENTISTS, MATHEMATICIANS, ENGINEERS, AND TECHNICIANS BY SUPPORTING THE RETENTION AND GRADUATION OF HIGH-ACHIEVING, LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WITH DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED. THE PROJECT WILL PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO 26 UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS PURSUING DEGREES IN BIOLOGY AT DOMINICAN COLLEGE, A FOUR-YEAR HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTION (HSI). THE PROJECT AIMS TO INCREASE STUDENT RETENTION IN BIOLOGY AND SCIENCE CAREER PATHWAYS BY LINKING SCHOLARSHIPS WITH SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING MENTORING, UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH, AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT. NEW BIOLOGY COURSES WILL INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO EMERGING BIOLOGICAL DISCIPLINES, AS WELL AS SCIENCE COMMUNICATION AND CAREER PLANNING. EVALUATION OF THE EFFORT IN THE CONTEXT OF AN HSI HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE INSIGHTS INTO SUPPORTING LOW-INCOME STUDENTS IN STEM AND INCREASING DIVERSITY IN STEM FIELDS. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO INCREASE DEGREE COMPLETION OF LOW-INCOME, HIGH-ACHIEVING UNDERGRADUATES IN BIOLOGY THROUGH THREE SPECIFIC GOALS. FIRST, THE PROJECT WILL RECRUIT 26 FIRST-YEAR, LOW-INCOME STUDENTS PLANNING TO MAJOR IN BIOLOGY AS S-STEM SCHOLARS. SECOND, THE PROJECT AIMS TO GRADUATE AT LEAST 90% OF THESE STUDENTS WITHIN FOUR YEARS OF MATRICULATION. THIRD, THE PROJECT HAS THE GOAL THAT AT LEAST 90% OF SCHOLARS WILL SECURE STEM EMPLOYMENT OR GRADUATE SCHOOL PLACEMENT IN THE REGION WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF GRADUATION. GUIDED BY LESSONS LEARNED FROM A PREVIOUS S-STEM PROGRAM ON THE CAMPUS, PROGRAM DESIGN IS GROUNDED IN RESEARCH-BASED PRACTICES, INCLUDING STEM FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ACTIVE LEARNING AND INCLUSIVE TEACHING PRACTICES, COURSE-BASED RESEARCH EXPERIENCES INTEGRATED IN FIRST-YEAR BIOLOGY COURSES, AND STRONG CONNECTIONS TO LOCAL INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVES AND STEM RESEARCHERS FROM LARGER AREA INSTITUTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, S-STEM SCHOLARS WILL EXPERIENCE TWO NEW BIOLOGY MAJOR COURSES ? BOTH OF WHICH EMPHASIZE PROFESSIONAL AND CAREER SKILL DEVELOPMENT ? TOGETHER AS A COHORT DURING THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR. SCHOLARS WILL FURTHER BE SUPPORTED BY PEER- AND FACULTY-MENTORS, AS WELL AS SHARED ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCES AS COHORTS THROUGHOUT THEIR UNDERGRADUATE EXPERIENCES. THE PROJECT WILL INVESTIGATE HOW DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC ACADEMIC AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT SUPPORTS MAY INCREASE LOW-INCOME STUDENT RETENTION AND PERSISTENCE IN STEM. PROJECT EVALUATION WILL BE GUIDED BY A LOGIC MODEL, SCHOLAR SURVEYS, ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION TRACKING, STEM COURSE PERFORMANCE, AND INSTITUTIONAL DATA ABOUT SCHOLAR PERSISTENCE IN THE BIOLOGY MAJOR. RESULTS OF THE PROJECT COULD YIELD INSIGHTS ABOUT THE MODEL THAT WOULD BE RELEVANT FOR OTHER SIMILAR INSTITUTIONS. DISSEMINATED WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLES, CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS, AND THE INSTITUTIONAL WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY NSF?S SCHOLARSHIPS IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS PROGRAM, WHICH SEEKS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF LOW-INCOME ACADEMICALLY TALENTED STUDENTS WITH DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED WHO EARN DEGREES IN STEM FIELDS. IT ALSO AIMS TO IMPROVE THE EDUCATION OF FUTURE STEM WORKERS, AND TO GENERATE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ACADEMIC SUCCESS, RETENTION, TRANSFER, GRADUATION, AND ACADEMIC/CAREER PATHWAYS OF LOW-INCOME STUDENTS. DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY IS A LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES UNIVERSITY WHICH IS ALSO A HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTION (HSI). OVER ITS 6-YEAR DURATION, THIS PROJECT WILL FUND SCHOLARSHIPS TO 16 UNIQUE FULL-TIME STUDENTS WHO ARE PURSUING BACHELOR?S DEGREES IN BIOLOGY, BIOLOGY-CHEMISTRY, AND CHEMISTRY. FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE FOUR-YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS. THE PROJECT WILL INCLUDE ACADEMIC SUPPORT WITH COLLABORATIVE FACULTY-STUDENT TEACHING, KNOWN AS PEER-LED TEAM LEARNING SUPPORT, A COHORT EXPERIENCE THROUGH COMMON COURSES, A FOUR-YEAR LEARNING COMMUNITY-STYLE COURSE, FACULTY MENTORING, AND SUPPORTED RESEARCH EXPERIENCES. A UNIQUE FEATURE OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE A COMBINATION OF ACADEMIC AND SOCIOCULTURAL SUPPORTS, SUCH AS ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO IMPROVE SCIENCE IDENTITY AND FEELINGS OF CONNECTION AND INCLUSION IN THE FIELD OF SCIENCE. DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY HAS A LARGE POPULATION OF STUDENTS WHO ARE FEMALE, HISPANIC/LATINX, AND ARE FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES, AND SUPPORTING THESE STUDENTS WILL DIVERSIFY THE SCIENCE WORKFORCE. THE FINDINGS OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE OF INTEREST TO UNIVERSITIES WITH SIMILARLY DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATIONS. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO INCREASE STEM DEGREE COMPLETION OF LOW-INCOME, HIGH-ACHIEVING UNDERGRADUATES WITH DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED. IN ADDITION TO SUPPORTING A COHORT OF STUDENTS IN SUCCESSFULLY EARNING STEM DEGREES, A SECOND PROJECT GOAL IS TO SUPPORT ENTRY OF GRADUATING STUDENTS INTO THE STEM WORKFORCE OR GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS. OTHER PROJECT GOALS INCLUDE INCREASING KNOWLEDGE OF HOW INTERVENTIONS CAN INCREASE STUDENT PERSISTENCE THROUGH ACADEMIC SUPPORT, IMPROVED SCIENCE IDENTITY, AND IMPROVED SCIENCE EFFICACY AS WELL AS INCREASED INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH FINANCIAL NEED. WHILE THERE IS GROWING EVIDENCE THAT CERTAIN FORMS OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT CAN IMPROVE PERSISTENCE AND STUDENT SUCCESS, LESS IS KNOWN ABOUT HOW ACADEMIC SUPPORT COMBINED WITH PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTIONS CAN IMPROVE SCIENCE IDENTITY, SCIENCE EFFICACY, WHICH IN TURN CAN IMPROVE DEGREE COMPLETION AND ENTRY INTO SCIENTIFIC CAREERS. THE RESEARCH DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROJECT IS GROUNDED IN CONSTRUCTIVIST AND SOCIOCULTURAL THEORIES OF LEARNING. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES, BASED ON THEORY AND PREVIOUS EMPIRICAL RESULTS, ARE THAT COURSE-BASED INTERVENTIONS, TRAINED FACULTY MENTORING, AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT THROUGH PEER-LED TEAM LEARNING WILL IMPROVE STUDENT PERSISTENCE BY IMPROVING THOSE STUDENTS? ADDITIONALLY, PROJECT RESULTS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN SCIENCE DISCIPLINE-BASED EDUCATION RESEARCH JOURNALS, SUCH AS THE JOURNAL CBE ? LIFE SCIENCES EDUCATION AND THE JOURNAL OF MICROBIOLOGY AND BIOLOGY EDUCATION. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY NSF?S SCHOLARSHIPS IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS PROGRAM, WHICH SEEKS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF LOW-INCOME ACADEMICALLY TALENTED STUDENTS WITH DEMONSTRATED FINANCIAL NEED WHO EARN DEGREES IN STEM FIELDS. DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHING METHODS TO IMPROVE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT UNDERSTANDING OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN AND APPLICATION OF SCIENCE CONCEPTS TO EVERYDAY LIFE -THIS PROJECT AIMS TO SERVE THE NATIONAL INTEREST BY DEVELOPING BETTER TEACHING METHODS AND ASSESSMENT TOOLS TO IMPROVE UNDERSTANDING OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN IN UNDERGRADUATE BIOLOGY STUDENTS. THE NATURAL SCIENCES, INCLUDING BIOLOGY, ARE BASED ON USE OF EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, ESPECIALLY COLLECTED FROM CONTROLLED EXPERIMENTS. STUDENTS WHO GRADUATE FROM UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN BIOLOGY SHOULD HAVE A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN AND THE LOGIC BEHIND CONTROLLED EXPERIMENTS. ARGUABLY, ALL UNIVERSITY-EDUCATED PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE SOME UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROCESS OF SCIENCE, REPRESENTED BY UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE. FURTHERMORE, EVIDENCE FROM MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES, SUCH AS COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY AND DISCIPLINE-BASED EDUCATION RESEARCH, HAS LED TO THE HYPOTHESIS THAT IF A PERSON UNDERSTANDS EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, THEY MAY BE ABLE TO APPLY THOSE SKILLS TO THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES, DEMONSTRATING ACHIEVEMENT OF AN IMPORTANT GOAL IN SCIENCE EDUCATION, KNOWN AS SCIENTIFIC LITERACY. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP BETTER METHODS OF ASSESSING UNDERSTANDING OF CONTROLLED EXPERIMENTS, TO DEVELOP BETTER METHODS OF ASSESSING SPECIFIC SCIENTIFIC LITERACY SKILLS, AND TO DEVELOP BETTER METHODS OF TEACHING ABOUT EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN IN UNDERGRADUATE-LEVEL INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY, IN BOTH LECTURE AND LAB COURSE COMPONENTS. THIS WORK REPRESENTS POSSIBLE FORWARD MOMENTUM ACROSS DISCIPLINES AND WILL ALLOW HYPOTHESES FROM THE LEARNING SCIENCES TO BE TESTED IN UNDERGRADUATE BIOLOGY CLASSROOMS. A GUIDING HYPOTHESIS OF THIS PROJECT IS THAT IMPROVED METACOGNITIVE SKILLS WILL ALLOW IMPROVED EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN SKILLS. THIS WORK MAY ALSO BENEFIT TEACHING IN OTHER NATURAL SCIENCE DISCIPLINES AT THE UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL AND POSSIBLY BENEFIT TEACHING FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS. AN INITIAL GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO GATHER RICH DATA ON UNDERSTANDING OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN THROUGH INTERVIEWS OF BEGINNER AND EXPERIENCED UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS, AS WELL AS EXPERT FACULTY. THESE DATA WILL BE USED TO DEVELOP BETTER TOOLS FOR ASSESSMENT AND TEACHING OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN. A SECOND, PARALLEL ASPECT OF THE PROJECT WILL BE TO COLLECT BASELINE DATA FROM ALL STUDENTS IN UNDERGRADUATE INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY, LECTURE AND LAB, AT A DIVERSE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN SKILL AND A SCIENTIFIC LITERACY SKILL WILL BE MEASURED THROUGH STANDARD INSTRUMENTS, THAT INVOLVE WRITTEN EXPLANATIONS BASED ON SCIENTIFIC SCENARIOS. USING INTERVIEW DATA AS WELL AS DATA FROM THE BASELINE COURSE, AN INTERVENTION WILL BE DESIGNED FOR INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY, INTERWOVEN THROUGHOUT THE LECTURE AND LAB, TO SUPPORT METACOGNITIVE SKILL DEVELOPMENT, IN SUPPORT OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN SKILLS. THE HYPOTHESIS THAT IMPROVED EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN SKILLS MAY SHOW TRANSFER TO A SCIENTIFIC LITERACY SKILL WILL ALSO BE TESTED. THE INTERVENTION WILL BE CONDUCTED ACROSS ALL COURSE SECTIONS OF INTRODUCTORY BIOLOGY FOR TWO SUBSEQUENT ACADEMIC YEARS, ALLOWING GENERATION OF AN ADEQUATE SAMPLE FOR STATISTICAL ANALYSIS, INCLUDING MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION. THE INTERVENTION WILL BE DESIGNED TO BE FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE, WITH MUCH THOUGHT PLACED IN HOW THE INTERVENTION COULD BE DEPLOYED IN CLASSROOMS AT VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO SUPPORT A FACULTY LEARNING COMMUNITY, TO SUPPORT FACULTY BUY-IN AND COLLABORATION. THE NSF IUSE: EDU PROGRAM SUPPORTS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS TO IMPROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STEM EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS. THROUGH THE ENGAGED STUDENT LEARNING TRACK, THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS THE CREATION, EXPLORATION, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROMISING PRACTICES AND TOOLS. THESE BARRIERS OFTEN RELATE TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS INCLUDING CROWDS, PUBLIC ATTITUDES, AND LACK OF STAFF TRAINING. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS (OTS) PROVIDE CONSULTATION FOR ARTS AND RECREATION ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS THESE BARRIERS, AND EXISTING RESEARCH SHOWS OT CONSULTATION HAS BEEN POSITIVELY RECEIVED BY ORGANIZATION STAFF AND CAREGIVERS OF PEOPLE WITH NDDS. HOWEVER, RESEARCH ON OT CONSULTATION IN ARTS AND RECREATION SETTINGS IS LIMITED, AND NO BEST PRACTICE GUIDELINES EXIST. THEREFORE, THE GOAL OF THIS STUDY IS TO STRENGTHEN THE EVIDENCE BASE FOR OT CONSULTATION THROUGH UTILIZING NOVEL METHODOLOGY AND CONTRIBUTING FOUNDATIONAL DATA TO ANCHOR DEVELOPMENT OF BEST PRACTICE GUIDELINES FOR OT CONSULTATION IN ARTS AND RECREATION SETTINGS. AIM 1 IS TO INVESTIGATE OTS’ PROCESS COMPONENTS WHEN ENGAGING IN ORGANIZATION-LEVEL CONSULTATION IN ARTS AND RECREATION SETTINGS. AIM 2 IS TO EXPLORE FEASIBILITY OF A MIXED METHODS APPROACH USING GOAL ATTAINMENT SCALING FOR EXAMINING ORGANIZATIONAL OUTCOMES OF OT CONSULTATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERSPECTIVES ON OT CONSULTATION. HEAD START IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT PROMOTES SCHOOLREADINESS OF CHILDREN UNDER FIVE FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES THROUGH EDUCATION, HEALTH, SOCIAL ANDOTHER SERVICES. IN ADDITION, THE PROJECT'S DIRECTOR HAS ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH PURDUEUNIVERSITY'S "DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION" COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE (COP), A PART OF THE USDA'SCOOPERATIVE EXTENSION SYSTEM'S EXTENSION INITIATIVE. TO INCREASE EQUITY WITHIN THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, HAVING INDIVIDUALS OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS IS PARAMOUNT. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MANY OBSTACLES IN THE WAY OF REACHING THAT GOAL.
