A SUCCESSFUL GRANT APPLICATION WAS WRITTEN AND IN 2012, AND OUR PROGRAM NOW COVERS KENDALL COUNTY AS WELL, THIS GRANT APPLICATION WILL NOW BE COMBINED AND WILL COVER ALL THREE COUNTIES. THE PROGRAM WILL SUPPORT A TOTAL OF 710 VOLUNTEERS WHO ANNUALLY WILL REPORT APPROXIMATELY 104,500 HOURS OF SERVICE. THESE VOLUNTEERS SUPPORT 83 STATIONS THROUGHOUT KANE, KENDALL AND MCHENRY COUNTIES. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF SERVICE WHERE VOLUNTEERS WILL BE MAKING THE MOST IMPACT WILL BE "HEALTHY FUTURES" -- "INDEPENDENT LIVING" VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: DELIVERING HOT MEALS TO FRAIL SENIORS UP TO FIVE DAYS PER WEEK, THROUGHOUT OUR SERVICE AREA. THESE MEALS WILL BE DELIVERED TO HOMEBOUND AND FRAIL ELDERLY THAT HAVE BEEN ASSESSED AND CONSIDERED "AT RISK". AS THE MEALS ARE DELIVERED, A WELLNESS CHECK IS ALSO PROVIDED AS MANY OF THESE SENIORS RARELY GET OTHER VISITORS ON A DAILY BASIS. A TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE TO HOMEBOUND SENIORS ALLOWING THEM A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE. RSVP VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE RIDES FREE OF CHARGE, ALLOWING THE SENIORS TO HAVE MORE MONEY TO SPEND ON HEALTHIER FOOD AND NEEDED MEDICATIONS. TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED TO NECESSARY APPOINTMENTS AND REGULAR TRIPS TO THE GROCERY STORE AND PHARMACY. SMALL HOME REPAIRS WILL BE OFFERED BY SKILLED RSVP VOLUNTEERS WHO WILL ASSIST WITH SMALL HOME REPAIRS INSURING THE HOMES ARE KEPT IN GOOD REPAIR AND RESULTING IN A SAFE LIVING ENVIRONMENT. AS MANY SENIORS RISK ISOLATION BECAUSE OF TRANSPORTATION ISSUES, FAMILY SEPARATION, AND OTHER CAUSES, WE OFFER A FRIENDLY VISITING PROGRAM IN WHICH RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE RECRUITED, SCREENED AND MATCHED WITH HOMEBOUND SENIORS. "HEALTHY FUTURES" - "ACCESS TO CARE" -- WORKPLANS WILL INCLUDE RSVP VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING WITH EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAMS; MATTER OF BALANCE, FIT AND STRONG, AND TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR HEALTH. ADDITIONALLY, RSVP VOLUNTEERS ARE TRAINED SHIP COUNSELORS. SEVERAL OF THE PROGRAMS THAT RSVP VOLUNTEERS SUPPORT IN KANE, KENDALL AND MCHENRY COUNTIES SUPPORT THE ABILITY OF THE SENIORS IN OUR AREA TO REMAIN INDEPENDENT AND IN THEIR OWN HOMES, LESSENING THE RISK OF INSTITUTIONALIZATION.
