THIS GRANT WILL FUND A PROJECT CALLED KEHEALAH (KEHILLA OR KEHEALAH IS A TRANSLITERATION OF THE WORD COMMUNITY FROM HEBREW) AND WILL TARGET THE UNDERSERVED POPULATION OF ORTHODOX JEWISH WOMEN IN ILLINOIS WHO ARE VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THE PROGRAM HAS THREE GOALS: 1) INCREASE THEABILITY TO PROVIDE CULTURALLY INFORMED, FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL CLINICAL AND LEGAL SERVICES TO ORTHODOX JEWISH WOMEN; 2) PROVIDE ENHANCED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR POLICE OFFICERS, POLICE SOCIAL WORKERS, FOR THE JEWISH (INCLUDING ORTHODOX GROUPS) AND SECULAR COMMUNITIES, TO BETTER MEET AND SERVE THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF ORTHODOX JEWISH WOMEN EXPERIENCING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE; AND 3) ENHANCE THEABILITY TO PROVIDE CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION TO FAMILY LAW ATTORNEYS ON THE LEGAL FAMILY LAW RELATED ISSUES OF THE ORTHODOX COMMUNITY. THE GRANT WILL ALSO ALLOW THE ARKTO DELIVER MUCH NEEDED EXPEDITED SAFETY NET SERVICES TO CLIENTS REFERRED BY SHALVA.
