AT THE TIME OF WRITING THIS GRANT, THE SSP FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY ON PAUSE. OUR PROJECT WAS INTERRUPTED IN MARCH OF 2020 DUE TO THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE CONTACT EACH OF THE GRANDPARENTS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO CHECK ON THEIR WELL BEING AND CONNECT THEM TO LOCAL RESOURCES. AS THE COMMUNITY BEGINS TO OPEN ITS DOORS AGAIN, WE PLAN TO ADAPT ACCORDINGLY TO THE NEW WAYS OF EVERYDAY LIFE. AS VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES BEGIN TO TAKE A NEW SHAPE, IT IS OUR JOB TO GUIDE THE REVIVAL OF THIS PROGRAM WHILE KEEPING THOSE INVOLVED SAFE. AN ESTIMATED 86 FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE AND BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE TUTORING, MENTORING, OTHER CLASSROOM SUPPORT, OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME, AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, OUR ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES ARE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN DEMONSTRATING GAINS IN SCHOOL READINESS, THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH IMPROVED ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT OR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SKILLS, AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH INCREASED ATTENDANCE AND DECREASED DISCIPLINARY INCIDENTS. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $467,440.00 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $23,811 FROM THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT ON AGING.
