THE PANDEMIC HAS MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR PARENTS TO GET DENTAL CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. ACCORDING TO C.S MOTT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL NATIONAL POLL ON CHILDREN’S HEALTH, SOME FAMILIES FACED GREATER CHALLENGES THAN OTHERS. IT WAS THREE TIMES AS COMMON FOR CHILDREN WITH MEDICAID VERSUS THOSE WITH PRIVATE DENTAL COVERAGE TO FACE AN INABILITY TO GET A DENTIST APPOINTMENT DURING THE PANDEMIC. LENGTHY WAIT TIMES FOR APPOINTMENTS, OFFICE CLOSURE, OR A REDUCTION IN PATIENT VISITS WERE AMONG THE BARRIERS FACING PARENTS ATTEMPTING TO KEEP UP WITH REGULAR DENTAL CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THE POLL FOUND THAT 24% OF PARENTS EXPERIENCED A DELAY IN GETTING AN APPOINTMENT, WHILE 7% COULD NOT GET AN APPOINTMENT AT ALL. THIRTY-TWO PERCENT OF PARENTS FEEL COVID-19 HAS MADE IT HARDER TO GET PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE FOR THEIR CHILD. FIFTEEN P ERCENT OF PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH MEDICAID COVERAGE REPORTED NOT BEING ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT, COMPARED TO 4% OF THOSE WITH PRIVATE DENTAL INSURANCE AND 5% OF THOSE WHO HAD NO COVERAGE.
