WHILE THE AREA IS CLASSIFIED AS URBAN PER U.S. CENSUS DEFINITIONS, THE COMMUNITIES SERVED ARE INTERMIXED WITH LARGE AGRICULTURAL TRACTS WITH LITTLE TRUE URBAN CORE AMENITIES OR SERVICES. WHILE UNEMPLOYMENT IS HIGHER IN THIS PORTION OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY THAN IN SEVERAL OTHER SECTORS, CONSTRUCTION AND LOGISTICS JOBS ARE ANTICIPATED TO GROW FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FIVE YEARS BASED ON RECENT GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE FORECASTS. BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT AND PROPOSED OUTCOMES: RCYB IS A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM TO ASSIST YOUTH IN COMPLETING HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CREDENTIAL WHILE BEING TRAINED IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND LOGISTICS INDUSTRIES. PARTICIPANTS WILL EARN INDUSTRY-RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS. HOME BUILDERS INSTITUTE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP CONSTRUCTION TRAINING WILL BE TAUGHT TO 29 YOUTH. RCYB PARTICIPANTS WILL CONSTRUCT HOUSING UNITS ON RIVERSIDE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROJECTS (CALVET REN) HOUSES FOR LOW-INCOME VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE LOGISTICS PROGRAM WILL BE TAUGHT TO 28 YOUTH TO LEARN THE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR ENTRY-LEVEL EMPLOYMENT IN WAREHOUSING, DISTRIBUTION, MATERIAL HANDLING, AND DISTRIBUTION IN SUPPLY CHAIN FACILITIES. WORK EXPERIENCE TRAINING FOR LOGISTICS IS AT DECKERS, A LOGISTICS DISTRIBUTION CENTER. THE RCYB PROGRAM HAS IDENTIFIED FIVE OBJECTIVES TO PROVIDE THE SKILLS, EDUCATION, RESOURCES, AND HANDS-ON TRAINING: OBJECTIVE 1: 85 OF YOUTH WILL COMPLETE THE REQUIRED HOURS (360 HOURS OF EDUCATION AND 300 HOURS OF WORK-BASED LEARNING WITH WORK EXPERIENCE)OBJECTIVE 2: 75 OF STUDENTS IN EACH AREA WILL EARN REQUIRED CREDENTIALSOBJECTIVE 3: YOUTH WILL COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 10 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICEOBJECTIVE 4: 70 OF STUDENTS WILL BE PLACED IN POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, MILITARY, OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING, OR APPRENTICESHIPS UPON PROGRAM COMPLETIONOBJECTIVE 5: 74 OF STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN POST-PROGRAM RETENTION IN EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION SERVICES | $1.3M | FY2023 | Jun 2023 – Sep 2026 |
