COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING/CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING - CONSTRUCTION - LIFE LINK III IS A HOSPITAL OWNED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION REPRESENTING 10 MAJOR HEALTH SYSTEMS AND MORE THAN 80 HOSPITALS ACROSS MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN, SERVING AS AN EXTENSION OF OUR PARTNERS BY PROVIDING CRITICAL CARE AND SPECIALIZED AIR MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION FOR THEIR SYSTEMS TO ENSURE THE CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES. WE PROVIDE ON-SCENE EMERGENCY RESPONSE, ADMINISTERING CARE WHEREVER THE PATIENT IS LOCATED, AS WELL AS INTERFACILITY TRANSPORTS, UTILIZED WHEN HOSPITALS REFER THEIR PATIENTS TO ANOTHER CARE FACILITY FOR THE SPECIALIZED CARE THE RECEIVING FACILITY PROVIDES. FROM THE INITIAL CALL TO OUR COMMUNICATION CENTER, TO OUR OPERATIONS CONTROL CENTER REVIEW FOR SAFETY, TO THE MOMENT WE ARRIVE ON SCENE AND BEGIN INITIAL TREATMENT IN ROUTE TO THEIR MEDICAL DESTINATION, WE ARE THERE FOR THE PATIENT EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. WITH A COMMITMENT TO SERVING THE MOST CRITICALLY ILL AND INJURED PATIENTS, OUR WORK HELPS BRIDGE GAPS IN A CONTINUALLY CHANGING HEALTH CARE ENVIRONMENT. ACROSS MINNESOTA, 16% OF RURAL HOSPITALS ARE AT RISK OF CLOSURE IN THE IMMEDIATE OR NEAR FUTURE. SHORTAGES OF PHYSICIANS AND HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES MAGNIFY THIS PROBLEM. AS PATIENTS IN RURAL COMMUNITIES ARE OFTEN OLDER WITH MORE MEDICAL NEEDS THAN OTHER PATIENT POPULATIONS ACROSS THE REGION, ACCESS TO CRITICAL CARE IS VITAL. OUR SERVICES CAN DELIVER LEVEL I TRAUMA CARE TO PLACES OTHER RESOURCES ARE UNABLE WHILE SUPPORTING LOCAL EMERGENCY SERVICES BY KEEPING THEM IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND AVAILABLE TO RESPOND TO OTHER NEEDS THAT ARISE THROUGH THE UTILIZATION OF SAFE AND EFFECTIVE AIR MEDICAL TRANSPORT. KEY TO OUR ABILITY TO ANSWER THE CALL ARE 11 BASES STRATEGICALLY POSITIONED THROUGHOUT MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN THAT FEATURE EXCEPTIONAL CREWS AND SUPPORT STAFF, ALONG WITH OUR FLEET OF AIRCRAFT, THAT HELP ENSURE RAPID AND EFFECTIVE RESPONSE WHEREVER IT IS NEEDED. LIFE LINK III’S BASE IN WILLMAR, MN, WHICH ADMINISTERS MORE THAN 300 AIR MEDIC AL TRANSPORTS FOR WILLMAR AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES ANNUALLY, HAS REACHED THE END OF ITS USEFUL LIFE, REQUIRING A SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURE OVERHAUL. THE OVERHAUL INCLUDES MOVING TO A NEW FOOTPRINT AT THE WILLMAR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AND BUILDING OUT A SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE OUR AIRCRAFT, FLIGHT CREWS, AND SUPPORT STAFF. THE ACQUISITION AND BUILDOUT OF A NEW FOOTPRINT WILL CONNECT OUR CREW QUARTERS TO OUR HANGAR SPACE, COMPLETE WITH THE NECESSARY INFRASTRUCTURE TO OPERATE IN THE MOST EFFECTIVE MANNER POSSIBLE. PROJECT FUNDING WILL BE UTILIZED TO ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY FOOTPRINT AT THE WILLMAR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AND COVER CONSTRUCTION COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BUILDOUT OF THE SPACE. THIS INCLUDES THE CONSTRUCTION OF QUARTERS THAT MEET OSHA STANDARDS TO HOUSE OUR PILOTS, FLIGHT PARAMEDICS, AND FLIGHT NURSES, WHO ARE STATIONED AT THE BASE 24/7 IN 12-HOUR SHIFTS, AS WELL AS HANGAR SPACE THAT WILL CONTAIN OUR AW119KX HELICOPTER, AIRCRAFT PARTS, CLINICAL EQUIPMENT, OFFICES FOR OPERATIONS, AND SECURE STORAGE FOR CLINICAL NARCOTICS. FUNDING WILL ALSO BE UTILIZED FOR NECESSARY FURNISHINGS TO COMPLETE SETUP IN THE NEW FOOTPRINT AND ENSURE THE SPACE AROUND THE NEW FOOTPRINT MEETS SAFETY AND OPERATION STANDARDS. THE RESULT OF THIS PROJECT WILL REDUCE OUR RESPONSE TIMES, STRENGTHEN SAFETY, AND ELEVATE EFFICIENCY SO THAT WE CAN PROVIDE RURAL COMMUNITIES AROUND WILLMAR WITH THE CRITICAL CARE ACCESS THEY NEED AND DESERVE.
