THE NORTHEAST IOWA FOOD BANKS'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS FOOD AND GROCERY PRODUCTS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS IN NORTHEAST IOWA, WHILE OFFERING HUNGER EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO THE AREA AND THOSE IN NEED. THE PROPOSED VISTA PROJECT ALIGNS WITH THE HEALTHY FUTURES FOCUS AREA. THE VISTA PROJECT WILL SEEK TO ALLEVIATE HUNGER IN IOWA AND WESTERN ILLINOIS, AND EXPECTS TO BENEFIT APPROXIMATELY 566,917 INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE FOOD INSECURE IN THE STATE OF IOWA AND WESTERN ILLINOIS. FOUR VISTA MEMBERS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOALS OF THE PROJECT BY PERFORMING ACTIVITIES SUCH AS PLANNING NEW VOLUNTEER EVENTS WHILE ALSO EMPHASIZING SKILL-BASED VOLUNTEERING, SPEARHEADING HUNGER 101 CURRICULUM AND OUTREACH, INITIATING COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AND FACILITATING HUNGER DISCUSSIONS IN THOSE COMMUNITIES, AND INCREASING FOOD DONORS AND DONOR POUNDS OVER THE COURSE OF THREE YEARS.
