COUNCIL OF CHURCHES OF THE OZARKS (CCO), SPONSOR OF THE RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES THE MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY (CHILDREN, SENIORS, THOSE WITH DISABILITIES, AND IMPOVERISHED FAMILIES) BY PROVIDING A VARIETY OF SERVICES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THE MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIVES THROUGH COMPASSIONATE SERVICE AND OUTREACH "BY DOING TOGETHER WHAT CAN BEST BE DONE TOGETHER." FOR RSVP SPRINGFIELD, AN ESTIMATED 146 UNDUPLICATED RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE IN SEVERAL FOCUS AREAS. OF THIS NUMBER, 120 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE TUTORING AT-RISK ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, ASSISTING PRE-K CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN READINESS, GROCERY SHOPPING FOR HOMEBOUND SENIORS, AND ASSISTING FOSTER PARENTS AND CHILDREN AT THE AMBASSADORS FOR CHILDREN KID'S CLOSET. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION: K-12 SUCCESS. AT THE END OF THE THREE YEAR GRANT, THE PROGRAM EXPECTS AN INCREASE OF ACADEMIC LITERACY FOR 120 STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $66,917 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY LOCAL GRANTS AND OTHER LOCAL SUPPORT DOLLARS WITH AT LEAST THE 30% MATCH REQUIREMENT OF $28,679.
