THE INSTITUTE FOR HERITAGE EDUCATION IHE IS A 501 C 3 NONPROFIT PARTNER OF PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY PA IHE HAS SUPPORTED PA IN SEVERAL WAYS SINCE BECOMING ACTIVE IN CULTURAL HERITAGE EDUCATION IN LATE 2019, INCLUDING THROUGH A CURRENT COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT BLM , COLORADO STATE OFFICE THE MAIN WAY WE DO SO NOW IS TO TAKE ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND FUNDRAISING SIDE OF THE WORK SO THAT THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS TRAINED IN PA MATERIALS AND METHODS CAN SPEND THEIR TIME EXPANDING THE EDUCATION REACH OF THE PROGRAM THE PROPOSED AWARD WILL BE USED TO HOST ONE PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS IN ELKO USING THE PA CURRICULUM INVESTIGATING SHELTER THIS WORKSHOP, USING AN INVESTIGATION APPROACH, ENABLES TEACHERS TO USE THE MATERIALS SUCCESSFULLY IN THE CLASSROOM, AND TO REACH THEIR STUDENTS IN AN ENGAGING WAY ALL PA MATERIALS EMPHASIZE THE NEED FOR STEWARDSHIP AND PROTECTION OF CULTURAL RESOURCES ON PUBLIC LANDS, MATCHING A BLM CULTURAL RESOURCE OBJECTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS IS AN OPTIMAL AVENUE TO BENEFIT YOUNG STUDENTS AND NEVADA S CULTURAL RESOURCES RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO PROTECT CULTURAL RESOURCES IS TO PROVIDE CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND INFORMAL EDUCATORS WITH HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE STUDENTS TO TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE RESOURCES ADDITIONALLY, THE MATERIALS PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY INVESTIGATIONS OF PAST CULTURES AND CONTEMPORARY DESCENDANT COMMUNITIES, THEREBY INCREASING EDUCATIONAL EQUITY OF DIVERSE AND UNDERSERVED AMERICANS THIS PROJECT WILL MEET BLM S GOALS BY PROTECTING CULTURAL RESOURCES ON PUBLIC LANDS THROUGH EDUCATION THE MOST SIGNIFICANT AND LASTING IMPACT OF PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY IS ITS UNIQUE ABILITY TO FOSTER CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING, PROMOTE SCIENTIFIC AND HISTORICAL INQUIRY, ENCOURAGE ETHICAL REASONING AND CITIZENSHIP, AND ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING OF THE LEGAL BASIS AND SOCIETAL NEED FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION INTERDISCIPLINARY IN NATURE, ARCHAEOLOGY OFFERS AN EXCELLENT VEHICLE FOR SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATING SCIENCE, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS, AND VISUAL ARTS THE EXISTING PA MATERIALS AND THE NEW SUPPLEMENTAL CURRICULUM WILL PROVIDE ENGAGING INQUIRY BASED MATERIALS FOR STUDENTS FOR YEARS TO COME
