TO CREATE AND EQUITABLY FILL THE OCEAN STEM JOBS OF THE FUTURE, ALTASEA AT THE PORT OF LOS ANGELES AND ITS NETWORK OF PARTNERS ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS IN EDUCATION, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP ACTIVITIES IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE ALTASEA OCEAN PATHWAYS PROGRAM (ASOP). ASOP IS AN INNOVATIVE PLATFORM THAT PROVIDES OCEAN STEM EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-16+ INCLUDING HANDS-ON SKILLS TRAINING FOR BLUE ECONOMY CAREERS, WITH A FOCUS ON THE EMERGING FIELD OF REGENERATIVE AQUACULTURE. ASOP BEGINS WITH EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FOR THIRD GRADERS AND CARRIES STUDENTS THROUGH TO HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS AND POST SECONDARY EDUCATION AND CAREER RESOURCES. ASOP IS THE ONLY PROGRAM OF ITS KIND THAT AIMS TO EXPAND FORMAL AND INFORMAL OCEAN STEM LEARNING FROM A YOUNG AGE WITH THE ULTIMATE GOAL AND DELIVERABLE OF DEVELOPING A SKILLED WORKFORCE FOR AN IMPORTANT EMERGING SECTOR IN THE U.S. ECONOMY.
