LEGAL AID OF NEBRASKA, A DESIGNEE OF THE SANTEE SIOUX NATION AND PONCA TRIBE OF NEBRASKA TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS, WILL WORK TO ADDRESS VIOLENCE AGAINST INDIAN WOMEN BY PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, FREE, LEGAL SERVICES. WITH THIS FUNDING, LEGAL AID OF NEBRASKA WILL PROVIDE FREE, CIVIL LEGAL SERVICES TO VICTIMS. NEBRASKA LEGAL AID HAS PARTNERED WITH NEBRASKA TRIBES ADDRESSING VIOLENCE COALITION TO PLAN THIS PROJECT. LEGAL AID OF NEBRASKA REPRESENTS THE FOLLOWING TRIBES FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS GRANT AWARD: OMAHA TRIBE OF NEBRASKA, OGLALA SIOUX TRIBE, PONCA TRIBE OF NEBRASKA, SANTEE SIOUX NATION, AND WINNEBAGO TRIBE OF NEBRASKA. WITH THIS FUNDING LEGAL AID OF NEBRASKA WILL PROVIDE NO-COST CIVIL LEGAL SERVICES FOR SURVIVORS, IMPROVE SURVIVORS KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR RIGHTS AND THE LEGAL SYSTEM BY PROVIDING 200 COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS; COMPLETE AT LEAST EIGHT COMMUNITY LEGAL EDUCATION EVENTS AND EIGHT LEGAL TRAINING EVENTS; AND IMPROVE ENGAGEMENT WITH THE TWO-SPIRIT/LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY BY CONDUCTING TARGETED OUTREACH AND PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING TRAINING FOR ALL LEGAL AID STAFF.
