THE OBJECTIVE OF BOTH OF THESE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS AND OF THIS PROPOSAL IS TO EXPAND THE REACH OF PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY IN EACH STATE, SUPPORTING A BLM MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVE BY EMPHASIZING THE NEED FOR STEWARDSHIP AND PROTECTION OF CULTURAL RESOURCES ON PUBLIC LANDS.THE THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT WE PROPOSE HERE WILL ENABLE IHE TO HOLD TWO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS ON PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY CURRICULA AND METHODS: ONE IN LAS VEGAS ON INVESTIGATING FOOD AND LAND IN YEAR 1, AND ONE WE PROPOSE FOR THE RENO-CARSON CITY AREA ON ROCK ART IN YEAR 3. IN YEAR 2, WE PROPOSE TO DEVELOP A NEW ROCK ART CURRICULUM FOR NORTHWESTERN NEVADA, CUSTOMIZED FOR THE STATE AND SUPPLEMENTAL TO THE UMBRELLA CURRICULUM INVESTIGATING ROCK ART. WE WOULD INTRODUCE THE UMBRELLA AND SUPPLEMENTAL CURRICULA TO TEACHERS IN THE YEAR 3 WORKSHOP. WE WILL CARRY OUT THE WORK UNDER THE AGREEMENT MAINLY THROUGH CONTRACTING WITH PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS TRAINED IN PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY MATERIALS AND METHODS.PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY MATERIALS ARE INQUIRY-BASED. EACH UMBRELLA CURRICULUM (E.G., INVESTIGATING SHELTER AND INVESTIGATING ROCK ART) TEACHES THE BASICS OF HISTORICAL AND SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY. SUPPLEMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS OF SPECIFIC ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES ALLOW STUDENTS TO INVESTIGATE PAST CULTURES USING AUTHENTIC DATA INCLUDING ARTIFACTS, MAPS, AND ORAL HISTORIES.
