| Department of Commerce | PROJECT PURPOSE: CABRILLO COLLEGE'S IMPROVED REMOTE & HYFLEX LEARNING, DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING & SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS (IRHL-DLTSS) PROJECT WILL EXPAND BROADBAND ACCESS AND IMPROVE THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF LATINO/A/X AND LOW-INCOME STUDENTS INVOLVED IN REMOTE AND/OR HYBRID FLEXIBLE (HYFLEX) LEARNING.ACTIVITIES:CABRILLO COLLEGE'S IRHL-DLTSS PROJECT INTENDS TO CONDUCT THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: (1) BUILDOUT OF UP TO THREE (3) HYFLEX CLASSROOM SPACES AS PILOTS FOR IMPROVED CLASSROOM LEARNING AT THE COLLEGE; (2) PURCHASE ACCESSIBILITY SOFTWARE TO SUPPORT CABRILLO'S TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTER (TLC) TO SUPPORT A HIGH NUMBER OF ONLINE COURSES GIVEN THE CURRENT PANDEMIC AND TROUBLESHOOTING FACULTY NEEDS RELATED TO REMEDIATING AND CREATING ACCESSIBLE DOCUMENTS AND MEDIA AS WELL AS HIRING ADDITIONAL STUDENT HELPS TO HELP WITH ACCESSIBILITY REMEDIATION SUPPORT FOR MAINTAINING COURSE MATERIALS, AND (3) HIRE ADJUNCT FACULTY TO SUPPORT DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING AND TO TEACH CREDIT AND NONCREDIT COMPUTER APPLICATION/BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY (CABT) COURSES IN DIGITAL LITERACY FOR EXPANSION TO CABRILLO STUDENTS IN WATSONVILLE, PARTNER WITH K-12 SCHOOL DISTRICT, PAJARO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (PVUSD), TO HELP CONNECT STUDENTS INTO APPROPRIATE COURSES BY WAY OF DUAL ENROLLMENT, OUTREACH, AND COUNSELING, AND HIRE STUDENT ASSISTANTS FOR FALL AND SPRING SEMESTERS TO CONNECT STUDENTS WITH DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING TO BECOME MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES IN HIGHER EDUCATION.OUTCOMES: AS A RESULT OF IMPLEMENTING THE PROJECT, THE COMPLETION OF UPGRADES TO THREE CLASSROOM WITH OUTFITTED HYFLEX EQUIPMENT AND UPGRADED WIRELESS INTEGRATION WILL ENABLE REMOTE AND HYFLEX LEARNING, FOR THE MOST ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE LAPTOP/TABLETS, HOTSPOTS, AND DATA PLANS, INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY WILL RECEIVE TRAINING IN HYFLEX TECHNOLOGY USE AND PEDAGOGY FOR CREATING HYFLEX INSTRUCTION COURSES, KNOWLEDGE IMPROVEMENT FOR FACULTY AROUND THE USE OF HYFLEX EQUIPMENT IN CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT, CABRILLO COLLEGE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PILOT VERSION OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN HYFLEX TO INFORM FUTURE EFFORTS TO SCALE ON CAMPUS, IMPROVEMENT OF FACULTY KNOWLEDGE OF HYFLEX AND THE ABILITY TO REDESIGN THEIR COURSES AROUND A PEDAGOGY THAT USES HYFLEX TO MAXIMIZE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND LEARNING FOR IN-PERSON AND REMOTE STUDENTS, CONNECT CABRILLO STUDENTS IN WATSONVILLE AND LIVE OAK OVER THE TWO YEARS TO DIGITAL LITERACY COURSES (NONCREDIT AND CREDIT), AND FACULTY WILL BE PROPERLY TRAINED IN HYFLEX TO TEACHES AND STUDENTS.BENEFICIARIES:THIS PROJECT WILL BENEFIT THE COLLEGE, STUDENTS, AND/OR THE NEIGHBORING COMMUNITY WITHIN WATSONVILLE (SOUTH SANTA CRUZ COUNTY) AND OTHER STUDENTS IN THE LIVE OAK/BEACH FLATS COMMUNITY OF SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA BY IMPROVING THE CAMPUS-COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP, INCREASING THE COLLEGE'S CAPACITY TO DELIVER QUALITY INSTRUCTION, PROVIDING ADDITIONAL ACCELERATED PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS AND/OR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO LEARN, AND INCREASING ENTREPRENEURIAL PATHWAYS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A BROAD COLLECTION OF EXPERIENCES CENTERED ON THE CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF MONARCH BUTTERFLY HABITATS. STEM MAJORS WILL PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE DEVELOPING NATIVE HABITATS, PLOTTING AND PLANTING SEEDLINGS, TESTING SOILS, OBSERVING WILDLIFE, AND GATHERING PLANT AND INSECT DATA. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO IMPROVE THE TECHNICAL WRITING SKILLS OF HUMANITIES MAJORS TO SUPPORT PROJECT DISSEMINATION THROUGH PUBLICATIONS, PRESENTATIONS, AND OTHER OUTLETS. INVOLVING STUDENTS IN AUTHENTIC RESEARCH EXPERIENCES IS A PROVEN APPROACH TO STRENGTHEN ENGAGEMENT AND REALIZE STRONGER ACADEMIC OUTCOMES. THIS PROJECT FURTHER CENTERS THE WORK TO SUPPORT BUTTERFLY POPULATIONS AS AN IMPORTANT PART OF STUDENTS' LOCAL COMMUNITIES, ENCOURAGING THEM TO BECOME ACTIVE, ENGAGED CITIZENS. PROJECT RESEARCH WILL EXPLORE HOW CONTRIBUTING TO HABITAT RESTORATION EFFORTS THROUGH COURSES AND INDEPENDENT EFFORTS IMPACT STUDENTS AND FACULTY. THE PROJECT WILL BE ASSESSED BY AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR WHO WILL PROVIDE FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE FEEDBACK TO ENSURE PROGRESS TOWARDS STATED GOALS. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY THE HSI PROGRAM, WHICH AIMS TO ENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION, BROADEN PARTICIPATION IN STEM, AND INCREASE CAPACITY TO ENGAGE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIONS TO IMPROVE STEM TEACHING AND LEARNING AT HSIS. THESE PARTNERSHIPS WILL HELP TO ENSURE THAT COLLEGES ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE LATEST BIOTECHNOLOGY SKILLS SO THEY ARE PREPARED FOR THE WORKFORCE. THE OVERALL GOAL OF MVC’S GARRETT LEE SMITH CAMPUS SUICIDE PREVENTION PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY TO IDENTIFY AND RESPOND QUICKLY AND APPROPRIATELY TO STUDENTS EXPERIENCING SUICIDE IDEATION, WHILE ALSO BUILDING A NETWORK OF SERVICES THAT BOTH PREVENTS AND REDUCES THE NEED FOR CRISIS INTERVENTION. WITH LEADERSHIP FROM MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE’S STUDENT HEALTH AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES (SHPS) OFFICE, THIS PROJECT WILL (1) DEVELOP A SOCIO-ECOLOGICAL RESPONSE TO SUICIDE PREVENTION TO ELIMINATE RISK FACTORS THAT LEAD TO SUICIDE AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS; (2) FACILITATE AN ONSITE MENTAL HEALTH/WELLNESS/SUICIDE PREVENTION TEAM OF TRAINED TRAINERS TO PROVIDE QPR TRAINING, KNOW THE SIGNS, AND OTHER SUICIDE PREVENTION CURRICULUM AS APPROPRIATE; AND (3) PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR WELLNESS TEAM MEMBERS TO IMPROVE SUICIDE PREVENTION SKILL SETS. BY ACHIEVING THESE OBJECTIVES, MVC’S PROJECT WILL YIELD: (1) 15 FACULTY AND STAFF TRAINED AS TRAIN THE TRAINERS; (2) 1,000 STUDENTS TRAINED IN SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION; AND (3) 50 FACULTY AND STAFF TRAINED IN SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION. WHILE THIS PROJECT WILL SERVE ALL OF THE STUDENTS ENROLLED AT MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE, IT WILL TARGET THE COLLEGE’S MOST AT-RISK STUDENT POPULATIONS, INCLUDING BIPOC STUDENTS, LGBTQ STUDENTS, STUDENT PARENTS, AND FIRST GENERATION STUDENT. ACCORDING TO RESEARCH BY THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS, THERE ARE FIVE FACTORS THAT REDUCE SUICIDAL IDEATION, INCLUDING: - PROMOTING SOCIAL CONNECTEDNESS - INCREASE HELP-SEEKING BEHAVIOR - PROVIDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - FOLLOWING CRISIS MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES - DEVELOPING STUDENT LIFE SKILLS THE PROGRAM WILL OFFER SUICIDE PREVENTION, UPSTREAM, AND POSTVENTION SERVICES BY CONDUCTING STUDENT PEER AMBASSADOR OUTREACH, STAFF, FACULTY, STUDENT, AND COMMUNITY TRAINING. THE PROGRAM WILL EMPHASIZE INCREASING PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND SOCIAL CONNECTION THROUGH DAILY WELLNESS GROUPS. THE TEAM WILL PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO IMPROVE COPING SKILLS AND WELL-BEING. THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY EFFECT: ENRICHING LEARNING, PROGRAMS, AND STUDENT EXPERIENCES IN THE INLAND EMPIRE -WITH SUPPORT FROM THE IMPROVING UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION: HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTIONS (HSI PROGRAM), THIS LEVEL 1 IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION PROJECT AT MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE AIMS TO PROVIDE HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES ACROSS MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A BROAD COLLECTION OF EXPERIENCES CENTERED ON THE CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF MONARCH BUTTERFLY HABITATS. STEM MAJORS WILL PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE DEVELOPING NATIVE HABITATS, PLOTTING AND PLANTING SEEDLINGS, TESTING SOILS, OBSERVING WILDLIFE, AND GATHERING PLANT AND INSECT DATA. THE PROJECT WILL ALSO IMPROVE THE TECHNICAL WRITING SKILLS OF HUMANITIES MAJORS TO SUPPORT PROJECT DISSEMINATION THROUGH PUBLICATIONS, PRESENTATIONS, AND OTHER OUTLETS. INVOLVING STUDENTS IN AUTHENTIC RESEARCH EXPERIENCES IS A PROVEN APPROACH TO STRENGTHEN ENGAGEMENT AND REALIZE STRONGER ACADEMIC OUTCOMES. THIS PROJECT FURTHER CENTERS THE WORK TO SUPPORT BUTTERFLY POPULATIONS AS AN IMPORTANT PART OF STUDENTS' LOCAL COMMUNITIES, ENCOURAGING THEM TO BECOME ACTIVE, ENGAGED CITIZENS. PROJECT RESEARCH WILL EXPLORE HOW CONTRIBUTING TO HABITAT RESTORATION EFFORTS THROUGH COURSES AND INDEPENDENT EFFORTS IMPACT STUDENTS AND FACULTY. THE PROJECT WILL BE ASSESSED BY AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR WHO WILL PROVIDE FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE FEEDBACK TO ENSURE PROGRESS TOWARDS STATED GOALS. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED BY THE HSI PROGRAM, WHICH AIMS TO ENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE STEM EDUCATION, BROADEN PARTICIPATION IN STEM, AND INCREASE CAPACITY TO ENGAGE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIONS TO IMPROVE STEM TEACHING AND LEARNING AT HSIS. COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: EPIIC A-SPARK: AGRICULTURE AND SCIENCE PRACTICE AND ACCESS FOR RESEARCH-DRIVEN KNOWLEDGE -THE EPIIC A-SPARK (AGRICULTURE AND SCIENCE PRACTICE AND ACCESS FOR RESEARCH-DRIVEN KNOWLEDGE) PROJECT WILL BUILD RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP CAPACITY AT FOUR COLLEGES WITH DEGREE PROGRAMS IN AGRICULTURE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY. THE CAPACITY BUILDING EFFORTS WILL HELP THESE COLLEGES WORK WITH THE BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY TO CONDUCT RESEARCH AND DELIVER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY COMPANIES. THE COLLEGES WILL WORK WITHIN THEIR REGION AND WITH EACH OTHER ACROSS THE UNITED STATES TO FIND COMMON AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY ISSUES AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS TO BUILD A REGIONALLY CONNECTED BIO-ECONOMY. THESE PARTNERSHIPS WILL HELP TO ENSURE THAT COLLEGES ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE LATEST BIOTECHNOLOGY SKILLS SO THEY ARE PREPARED FOR THE WORKFORCE. THE SPECIFIC GOALS OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO BUILD INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP CAPACITY AND TO CREATE A WORKFORCE THAT WILL SUPPORT A REGIONALLY CONNECTED BIOECONOMY. THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT ACROSS FOUR REGIONS OF THE UNITED STATES, EACH WITH GROWING BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES, WILL FOCUS ON AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY. INSTITUTES FOR HIGHER EDUCATION (IHES) IN EACH REGION OF THE COUNTRY WILL ESTABLISH SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVES TO CONDUCT OUTREACH TO BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES WITHIN THEIR REGION, CULMINATING IN A SERIES OF CROSS-REGIONAL SUMMITS, ULTIMATELY RESULTING IN INDUSTRY-SUPPORTED AND FACULTY-LED AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING. IHES IN THE FOUR REGIONS WILL SHARE INDUSTRY PARTNERS, RESEARCH IDEAS AND RESULTS, AND WILL PURSUE OPPORTUNITIES TO COLLABORATE ON GRANTS AND PROJECTS. THIS CROSS-COUNTRY, MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL, MULTI-INDUSTRIAL, AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY COLLABORATION HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ADVANCE BIOTECH SOLUTIONS TO AGRICULTURAL ISSUES AND TO RAPIDLY DEPLOY BIOTECHNOLOGICAL WORKFORCE TRAINING SOLUTIONS TO EMERGING AGRICULTURAL PROBLEMS. MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE GARRETT LEE SMITH CAMPUS SUICIDE PREVENTION PROJECT - MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE’S GARRETT LEE SMITH CAMPUS SUICIDE PREVENTION PROJECT WILL ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF CULTURALLY DIVERSE MORENO VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS. THE OVERALL GOAL OF MVC’S GARRETT LEE SMITH CAMPUS SUICIDE PREVENTION PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY TO IDENTIFY AND RESPOND QUICKLY AND APPROPRIATELY TO STUDENTS EXPERIENCING SUICIDE IDEATION, WHILE ALSO BUILDING A NETWORK OF SERVICES THAT BOTH PREVENTS AND REDUCES THE NEED FOR CRISIS INTERVENTION. WITH LEADERSHIP FROM MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE’S STUDENT HEALTH AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES (SHPS) OFFICE, THIS PROJECT WILL (1) DEVELOP A SOCIO-ECOLOGICAL RESPONSE TO SUICIDE PREVENTION TO ELIMINATE RISK FACTORS THAT LEAD TO SUICIDE AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS; (2) FACILITATE AN ONSITE MENTAL HEALTH/WELLNESS/SUICIDE PREVENTION TEAM OF TRAINED TRAINERS TO PROVIDE QPR TRAINING, KNOW THE SIGNS, AND OTHER SUICIDE PREVENTION CURRICULUM AS APPROPRIATE; AND (3) PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR WELLNESS TEAM MEMBERS TO IMPROVE SUICIDE PREVENTION SKILL SETS. BY ACHIEVING THESE OBJECTIVES, MVC’S PROJECT WILL YIELD: (1) 15 FACULTY AND STAFF TRAINED AS TRAIN THE TRAINERS; (2) 1,000 STUDENTS TRAINED IN SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION; AND (3) 50 FACULTY AND STAFF TRAINED IN SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION. WHILE THIS PROJECT WILL SERVE ALL OF THE STUDENTS ENROLLED AT MORENO VALLEY COLLEGE, IT WILL TARGET THE COLLEGE’S MOST AT-RISK STUDENT POPULATIONS, INCLUDING BIPOC STUDENTS, LGBTQ STUDENTS, STUDENT PARENTS, AND FIRST GENERATION STUDENT. ACCORDING TO RESEARCH BY THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS, THERE ARE FIVE FACTORS THAT REDUCE SUICIDAL IDEATION, INCLUDING: - PROMOTING SOCIAL CONNECTEDNESS - INCREASE HELP-SEEKING BEHAVIOR - PROVIDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES - FOLLOWING CRISIS MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES - DEVELOPING STUDENT LIFE SKILLS THE PROGRAM WILL OFFER SUICIDE PREVENTION, UPSTREAM, AND POSTVENTION SERVICES BY CONDUCTING STUDENT PEER AMBASSADOR OUTREACH, STAFF, FACULTY, STUDENT, AND COMMUNITY TRAINING. THE PROGRAM WILL EMPHASIZE INCREASING PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND SOCIAL CONNECTION THROUGH DAILY WELLNESS GROUPS. THE TEAM WILL PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO IMPROVE COPING SKILLS AND WELL-BEING. SERVICES WILL BE OFFERED IN NON-STIGMATIZING AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE WAYS SUCH AS HEALING CIRCLES, SKILL BUILDING GROUPS, HOW TO HELP A FRIEND, AND IN NON-STIGMATIZING LOCATIONS. GRANT FUNDS WILL BE USED TO HIRE A STUDENT HEALTH EDUCATION SPECIALIST WHO WILL RECEIVE QPR TRAIN THE TRAINER (T4T) TRAINING TO SERVE AS THE SUICIDE PREVENTION COORDINATOR AND SERVE AS A PRIMARY TRAINER. AFTER COMPLETION OF THE TRAINING, THE STUDENT HEALTH EDUCATION SPECIALIST WILL PROVIDE A 20-HOUR TRAINING TO 10 STUDENT PEER AMBASSADORS IDENTIFYING STUDENTS AT RISK, PEER EDUCATION, PEER COUNSELING, OUTREACH STRATEGIES, AND SUICIDE PREVENTION BEST PRACTICES. THROUGH THIS GRANT, THE TEAM WILL OFFER BI-MONTHLY QPR TRAINING AND KNOW THE SIGNS TRAININGS. THE STUDENT HEALTH EDUCATION SPECIALIST WILL WORK WITH OTHER SHPS STAFF TO SUPERVISE STUDENT PEER AMBASSADORS AS THEY CONDUCT DAILY OUTREACH TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND IDENTIFY STUDENTS AT RISK.

COMMUNITY COLLEGES SERVE AS AN IMPORTANT BRIDGE BETWEEN EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT, BUT TRAINING PROGRAMS MUST CONTINUOUSLY EVOLVE TO KEEP PACE WITH INDUSTRY NEEDS. STRENGTHENING WORKFORCE PREPARATION BENEFITS NOT ONLY AGRICULTURAL BUSINESSES, BUT ALSO LOCAL COMMUNITIES BY SUPPORTING ECONOMIC STABILITY, CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS, AND THE LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY OF AGRICULTURE IN THE REGION.THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON IMPROVING WORKFORCE PREPARATION BY ENHANCING INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES AND INCREASING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND REGIONAL INDUSTRY PARTNERS. MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE WILL WORK WITH EMPLOYERS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WORKFORCE SKILL NEEDS AND INCORPORATE THAT KNOWLEDGE INTO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION, HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATIONS, AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS INDUSTRY TOURS, CAREER EVENTS, AND WORKFORCE ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES. THESE EFFORTS ARE DESIGNED TO INCREASE STUDENT AWARENESS OF AGRICULTURAL CAREER PATHWAYS AND PROVIDE PRACTICAL EXPOSURE TO REAL-WORLD AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS, HELPING STUDENTS BETTER UNDERSTAND THE SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH EMPLOYMENT IN THE WINE AND FERMENTATION SECTOR.THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO STRENGTHEN THE REGIONAL AGRICULTURAL WORKFORCE PIPELINE BY IMPROVING CAREER READINESS AND EXPANDING ACCESS TO AGRICULTURAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES. BY INCREASING COLLABORATION BETWEEN EDUCATION AND INDUSTRY, THE PROJECT AIMS TO BETTER PREPARE STUDENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT, SUPPORT LOCAL AGRICULTURAL BUSINESSES, AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE LONG-TERM ECONOMIC HEALTH OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY. THE ANTICIPATED BENEFITS INCLUDE IMPROVED WORKFORCE READINESS, STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN EDUCATION AND INDUSTRY, AND EXPANDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PURSUE MEANINGFUL CAREERS IN AGRICULTURE. THIS TASK AGREEMENT IMPLEMENTS A COOPERATIVE PROJECT BETWEEN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, YOSEMITE CONSERVANCY, A NON-PROFIT, AND MARIPOSA COUNTY RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICT FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENHANCING CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION OF TWO KEY NATURAL RESOURCES OF MUTUAL STRATEGIC PRIORITY TO BOTH YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK AND YOSEMITE CONSERVANCY: GIANT SEQUOIAS AND ACKERSON MEADOW AT YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK. THIS BI-PARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE LAW (BIL) FUNDED PROJECT COMPLETES URGENT AND CRITICAL FUELS REDUCTION WORK TO PREPARE THE MERCED GROVE FOR AN INTERAGENCY PRESCRIBED FIRE THAT REDUCES WILDFIRE THREAT TO THE GIANT SEQUOIAS, FEDERALLY LISTED WILDLIFE HABITAT, A CRITICAL TELECOMMUNICATION SITE, AND THE PARK HELIBASE LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE GROVE, WHICH IS CRITICAL TO PARK EMERGENCY OPERATIONS, DECREASE THE RISK TO FIREFIGHTER SAFETY, AND INCREASE RESILIENCY OF THE LANDSCAPE TO CLIMATE CHANGE ALL WHILE ENSURING VISITORS CAN EXPERIENCE THE SEQUOIAS NOW AND INTO THE FUTURE.
