THIS PROGRAM SEEKS TO PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND DEVELOP THE COMPONENTS OF THE NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM, WITH A STRONG EMPHASIS ON VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT, THROUGH COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS TO OPERATE, DEVELOP, AND MAINTAIN ANY PORTION OF SUCH A TRAIL EITHER WITHIN OR OUTSIDE A FEDERALLY ADMINISTERED AREA. THE SECRETARY MAY PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN THE ACQUISITION, PROTECTION, OPERATION, DEVELOPMENT, OR MAINTENANCE OF SUCH TRAILS. THIS AGREEMENT FUNDS THE LEWIS AND CLARK TRAIL ALLIANCE TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE DIGITAL PLATFORMS THAT SHARE HISTORY, MAPS, EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, AND TOURISM INFORMATION ABOUT THE LEWIS AND CLARK NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL. THE PROJECT KEEPS THESE PUBLIC RESOURCES ACCURATE, CULTURALLY RESPECTFUL, SECURE, AND FREELY ACCESSIBLE WHILE SUPPORTING COLLABORATION WITH TRIBAL NATIONS, COMMUNITIES, AND THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. IT ALSO ENSURES LONGTERM SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH REGULAR UPDATES, REPORTING, AND PLANNING.BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC, STATES AND OR THEIR POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS, LANDOWNERS, PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS, OR INDIVIDUALS.
