THE MUSEUM WILL HIRE A DIGITAL ASSETS LIBRARIAN AND PROCESSING ARCHIVIST TO WORK WITH THE LEAD PROJECT ADVISOR AND OTHER STAFF TO PROCESS AND DIGITIZE 105,310 ITEMS (62 LINEAR FEET) OF PRIORITY ARCHIVAL MATERIAL; CREATE A DIGITAL REPOSITORY WITH AN ASSOCIATED ARCHIVES CATALOG; ESTABLISH THE MUSEUM'S FIRST DIGITAL PRESERVATION PLAN; AND MAKE THE DIGITIZED MATERIAL ACCESSIBLE ON THE MUSEUM'S WEBSITE. THE PROJECT WILL FACILITATE ACCESS AND DISCOVERY OF THE MUSEUM'S MOST-REQUESTED PRIMARY SOURCES FOR SCHOLARLY RESEARCH WHILE BUILDING STAFF CAPACITY FOR DIGITAL COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT.

A CROSS-DEPARTMENTAL STAFF TEAM WILL ENGAGE IN INFORMAL AND FORMAL TRAINING DESIGNED TO DEVELOP SKILLS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO SELECT AND ROLLOUT THE MUSEUM’S FIRST DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DAMS). THE STAFF TEAM WILL PARTICIPATE IN A PROFESSIONALLY FACILITATED NEEDS ASSESSMENT, ATTEND DAM-RELATED CONFERENCES, AND MEET WITH PEER INSTITUTIONS THAT USE DAMS.
