THIS PROJECT AIMS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENT INVESTMENT IN THE CARE OF THE AHUPUAA, AND ULTIMATELY ALL OF HAWAII'S WATER SOURCES, BY ENGAGING THEM IN AHUPUAA INVESTIGATIONS USING 21ST CENTURY CONTENT/TECHNOLOGY AND CONTEXTUALIZED INVESTIGATIVE PLACE-BASED LEARNING. FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS FROM WAIAHOLE AND KAAAWA ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WILL PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES, CO-DEVELOPED BETWEEN TEACHERS AND THE PROJECT TEAM, TO UNDERSTAND THE INTER-CONNECTEDNESS BETWEEN THE AHUPUAA, OUR OCEANS AND AQUIFERS, USING CUSTOM-DESIGNED SENSORS TO MAP WATER FLOW, AND ASSESS AHUPUAA HEALTH USING WATER QUALITY MEASUREMENTS. THIS IS THE PRODUCT OF A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HI FUSIONED AND THE PACIFIC AMERICAN FOUNDATION, WITH SUPPORT FROM IOLANI SCHOOL ROBOTICS DEPARTMENT, HAPA FARMS, AND THE MARINE & APPLIED KNOWLEDGE FOR ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH (MAKER) LAB AT THE NOAA PACIFIC ISLANDS FISHERIES SCIENCE CENTER.
