ANHC CHILDREN'S DENTAL EXPANSION PROGRAM - ATHENS NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH CENTER (ANHC), A FEDERALLY QUALIFIED HEALTH CENTER, REQUESTS FUNDING TO PURCHASE TWO FULLY EQUIPPED MOBILE HEALTH UNITS TO EXPAND ACCESS TO PEDIATRIC DENTAL AND VISION SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. ONE MOBILE UNIT WILL INCLUDE THREE DENTAL OPERATORIES, WHILE THE SECOND WILL INCLUDE TWO DENTAL OPERATORIES AND ONE VISION EXAM STATION. BUILDING ON ANHC'S LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE CLARKE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, THESE MOBILE UNITS WILL BRING PREVENTIVE, DIAGNOSTIC, AND RESTORATIVE SERVICES DIRECTLY TO SCHOOLS AND OTHER COMMUNITY LOCATIONS, MAKING IT EASIER FOR CHILDREN TO RECEIVE CARE WHERE THEY ALREADY ARE. THIS PROJECT WILL HELP REDUCE BARRIERS SUCH AS TRANSPORTATION, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP, LACK OF INSURANCE OR UNDERINSURANCE, AND LIMITED ACCESS TO PROVIDERS. BY EXPANDING ANHC'S CAPACITY TO DELIVER CARE BEYOND THE WALLS OF THE HEALTH CENTER, THIS PROJECT WILL IMPROVE ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL ORAL HEALTH AND VISION SERVICES, SUPPORT EARLIER IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT OF HEALTH CONCERNS, STRENGTHEN CONNECTIONS TO A COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL HOME, AND HELP ENSURE MORE CHILDREN RECEIVE THE CARE THEY NEED.
