THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES INCLUDE PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH INTERACTIVE AND ENGAGING LESSON PLANS TO USE WITH STUDENTS TO BOTH INCREASE CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND TO FACILITATE STEWARDSHIP IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY; INCREASE TEACHER CONFIDENCE IN TEACHING POLLUTION CONTENT TO STUDENTS USING MWEES; AND ENGAGE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN LOCAL RESTORATION EFFORTS THROUGH THE USE OF A HANDS-ON ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION PROJECT IN TAMPA BAY. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE OBJECTIVES, A TEACHER WORKSHOP ON MICROPLASTICS POLLUTION WILL BE HOSTED AT THE FLORIDA AQUARIUM, FOLLOWED BY THE FIELD COLLECTION OF OYSTERS FROM MULTIPLE SITES IN TAMPA BAY, AND PROCESSING OF OYSTERS BY THE INVERTEBRATE LABORATORY AT USFSP. TEACHERS AND STUDENTS WILL DO A VISUAL ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE LEVELS OF MICROPLASTICS POLLUTION IN THE SAMPLES, FOLLOWED BY A HANDS-ON OYSTER RESTORATION PROJECT LED BY TAMPA BAY WATCH.
