CMHA COC IS THE PRIMARY HOUSING AUTHORITY ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN WORCESTER COUNTY, MA IN WHICH THE CITY OF FITCHBURG IS LOCATED. UNDER THE COC REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSING SUPPORT THERE ARE FOUR QUALIFICATIONS THAT MUST BE MET: 1) THE INDIVIDUAL IS CURRENTLY “STREET HOMELESS”; 2) HAS BEEN HOMELESS FOR THE PAST 12 MONTHS OR HAS BEEN HOMELESS FOR 12 MONTHS OR MORE IN THE PAST 36 MONTHS; 3) HAS A MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DISABILITY; AND 4) IS ON SSI OR SSDI. RRC WILL USE GRANT FUNDS TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS WITH SERVICES WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE. RRC HAS AN ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CMHA AND HAS IDENTIFIED AN ADDITIONAL UNSHELTERED HOMELESS POPULATION THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM HOUSING SUPPORTS AND SERVICES. SPECIFICALLY, THE PLAN IS TO: 1) UTILIZE OUTREACH SPECIALISTS TO ENGAGE INDIVIDUALS NOT CURRENTLY ACCESSING EXISTING HOMELESS SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY; 2) SCREEN AND ASSESS AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS FOR HOUSING NEEDS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, AND IMMEDIATE OBSTACLES TO RECOVERY THROUGH INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT; 2) INCREASE ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE; AND 3) CONNECT INDIVIDUALS TO INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT AND REFERRALS TO PEER SUPPORT AND RECOVERY COACHES TO ADDRESS SUBSTANCE USE. RESTORATION RECOVERY CENTER WILL SERVE THE HOMELESS POPULATION OF FITCHBURG, MA, AND THE COUNTY OF WORCESTER. FITCHBURG HAS AN ESTIMATED POPULATION OF 41,732 PERSONS. FITCHBURG RESIDENTS ARE 73.3% WHITE, 6.5% BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN, AND 30.0% HISPANIC/LATINO; THE REMAINING RACE GROUPS (E.G., AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE, ASIAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN OR OTHER PACIFIC ISLANDER, OR TWO OR MORE RACES) REPRESENT APPROXIMATELY 13.5% OF THE POPULATION. FITCHBURG’S MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME (IN 2021 DOLLARS) IS $60,466, $8,555 LOWER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE; 14.6% OF THE POPULATION LIVES IN POVERTY. WORCESTER COUNTY, MA MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME (IN 2021 DOLLARS) IS $56,746, $12,275 LOWER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE; 19.3% OF THE COUNTY POPULATION LIVES IN POVERTY. UNSHELTERED HOMELESSNESS CONTINUES TO RISE IN MANY AREAS OF THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING FITCHBURG. PRIMARY CONCERNS FACING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ARE A LACK OF STABLE HOUSING, ACCESS TO BASIC NEEDS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND DISCRIMINATION. A RECENT ANALYSIS OF HOMELESSNESS DATA SHOWS THAT PEOPLE EXPERIENCING UNSHELTERED HOMELESSNESS REPORT SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER HEALTH CHALLENGES AND EXPERIENCES OF TRAUMA AND VIOLENCE THAN THEIR SHELTERED PEERS. FOR THOSE UNABLE TO QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE, THESE CONCERNS ARE UNADDRESSED AND THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR SITUATION ALONE IS EXTREMELY LOW. RESTORATION RECOVERY WILL FILL THIS GAP AND ASSIST THOSE THAT ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS THESE SERVICES AND BREAK THE CYCLE. OARA WILL PROVIDE RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES, INCLUDING TRANSITION AND CASE PLANNING, VOCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, PEER SUPPORT, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND COUNSELING. THIS PROJECT WILL COMPLEMENT OARAS 2022-2025 SECOND CHANCE REENTRY GRANT BY OFFERING SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT TO ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS. WILLIAM G. TRUESDALE ADULT DETENTION CENTER (ADC) AND THE ARLINGTON COUNTY DETENTION FACILITY (ACDF) ARE MEDIUM-SECURITY FACILITIES IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. MOUS ARE PROVIDED. APPROXIMATELY 30% OF OARA PARTICIPANTS HAVE SUD (ALCOHOL, OPIOID, MARIJUANA); 20% HAVE A CO-OCCURRING CONDITION SUCH AS ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, OR A MOOD DISORDER. OARA REENTRY PARTICIPANTS ARE PRIMARILY BLACK (70%), LATINE/X/O/INDIGENOUS (8%), AND MULTIRACIAL (6%) PEOPLE. BASED ON EXPERIENCE, ALL HAVE NO OR LOWER INCOME (BELOW $17,000/ YEAR), ABOUT 40% OF PARTICIPANTS HAVE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL, 60% ARE UNHOUSED BEFORE OR AFTER LEAVING THE DETENTION FACILITY, AND 80% EXPERIENCE POVERTY. VIRGINIA'S RECIDIVISM RATE IS 23 PERCENT. OARA DEFINES RECIDIVISM AS BEING RECONVICTED AND REINCARCERATED WITH A NEW SENTENCE. CORRECTIONS CONDUCTS MEDICAL, SUBSTANCE USE, AND MENTAL HEALTH SCREENINGS WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL WHEN THEY ENTER THE FACILITY. OARA CONDUCTS THE OFFENDER SCREENING TOOL (OST), RISK-NEED-RESPONSIVITY ASSESSMENTS, THE ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS IDENTIFICATION TEST; DAST-10 QUESTIONNAIRE; COLUMBIA-SUICIDE SEVERITY RATING SCALE; THE PATIENT HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE; AND THE LIFE EVENTS CHECKLIST. THIS PROJECT, LED BY THE LOUISIANA COASTAL PROTECTION AND RESTORATION AUTHORITY AS THE LOCAL COST SHARE PARTNER, WILL YIELD ENGINEERING AND DESIGN PLANS DETAILING THE FEATURES OF THIS PROJECT TO RESTORE OVER 400 ACRES OF MARSH UTILIZING A LAYOUT TO HELP PROTECT THE COMMUNITY OF DELACROIX IN ST. BERNARD PARISH, LOUISIANA. THE PROJECT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A SUITE OF PROJECTS DESIGNED TO AID IN THE PROTECTION FROM STORM SURGES OF THIS HISTORIC AND CULTURALLY DISTINCT FISHERIES-CENTRIC COMMUNITY. COASTAL WETLANDS ARE LOUISIANAS FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE DURING HURRICANES AND STORMS, PROTECTING COMMUNITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE FROM THE DAMAGING EFFECTS OF WIND, WAVES, AND FLOODING. THEY ALSO PROVIDE HABITAT FOR FISH AND SHELLFISH, WHICH SUPPORT A STATEWIDE SEAFOOD INDUSTRY VALUED AT NEARLY $1 BILLION PER YEAR. HOWEVER, THE LOUISIANA COASTLINE HAS DETERIORATED CONSIDERABLY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL DECADES, WITH ONE OF THE HIGHEST RATES OF WETLAND LOSS IN THE WORLD. SINCE 1990, THE CWPPRA PROGRAM HAS SERVED AS THE PRIMARY MEANS FOR RESPONDING TO COASTAL WETLAND LOSS IN LOUISIANA. EACH YEAR, LARGE-SCALE RESTORATION PROJECTS ARE APPROVED FOR FUNDING BY THE CWPPRA TASK FORCE. THE TASK FORCE IS COMPOSED OF THE STATE OF LOUISIANA AND FIVE PARTICIPATING FEDERAL AGENCIES: NOAA, U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE, AND THE NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION SERVICE. THE PRIMARY GOALS OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO RESTORE DEGRADED WETLAND HABITAT AND PROVIDE INCREASED PROTECTION FROM STORM SURGE AND FLOODING. RESTORATION RECOVERY CENTER CHOICES - RESTORATION RECOVERY CENTER (RRC) IS SEEKING TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN THE CITY OF FITCHBURG, MA WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR HOUSING UNDER THE GUIDELINES OF THE CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS HOUSING ALLIANCE (CMHA) CONTINUUM OF CARE (COC). CMHA COC IS THE PRIMARY HOUSING AUTHORITY ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN WORCESTER COUNTY, MA IN WHICH THE CITY OF FITCHBURG IS LOCATED. UNDER THE COC REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSING SUPPORT THERE ARE FOUR QUALIFICATIONS THAT MUST BE MET: 1) THE INDIVIDUAL IS CURRENTLY “STREET HOMELESS”; 2) HAS BEEN HOMELESS FOR THE PAST 12 MONTHS OR HAS BEEN HOMELESS FOR 12 MONTHS OR MORE IN THE PAST 36 MONTHS; 3) HAS A MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DISABILITY; AND 4) IS ON SSI OR SSDI. RRC WILL USE GRANT FUNDS TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS WITH SERVICES WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE. RRC HAS AN ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CMHA AND HAS IDENTIFIED AN ADDITIONAL UNSHELTERED HOMELESS POPULATION THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM HOUSING SUPPORTS AND SERVICES. SPECIFICALLY, THE PLAN IS TO: 1) UTILIZE OUTREACH SPECIALISTS TO ENGAGE INDIVIDUALS NOT CURRENTLY ACCESSING EXISTING HOMELESS SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY; 2) SCREEN AND ASSESS AT-RISK INDIVIDUALS FOR HOUSING NEEDS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, AND IMMEDIATE OBSTACLES TO RECOVERY THROUGH INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT; 2) INCREASE ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE; AND 3) CONNECT INDIVIDUALS TO INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT AND REFERRALS TO PEER SUPPORT AND RECOVERY COACHES TO ADDRESS SUBSTANCE USE. RESTORATION RECOVERY CENTER WILL SERVE THE HOMELESS POPULATION OF FITCHBURG, MA, AND THE COUNTY OF WORCESTER. FITCHBURG HAS AN ESTIMATED POPULATION OF 41,732 PERSONS. FITCHBURG RESIDENTS ARE 73.3% WHITE, 6.5% BLACK OR AFRICAN AMERICAN, AND 30.0% HISPANIC/LATINO; THE REMAINING RACE GROUPS (E.G., AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE, ASIAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN OR OTHER PACIFIC ISLANDER, OR TWO OR MORE RACES) REPRESENT APPROXIMATELY 13.5% OF THE POPULATION. FITCHBURG’S MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME (IN 2021 DOLLARS) IS $60,466, $8,555 LOWER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE; 14.6% OF THE POPULATION LIVES IN POVERTY. WORCESTER COUNTY, MA MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME (IN 2021 DOLLARS) IS $56,746, $12,275 LOWER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE; 19.3% OF THE COUNTY POPULATION LIVES IN POVERTY. UNSHELTERED HOMELESSNESS CONTINUES TO RISE IN MANY AREAS OF THE COUNTRY, INCLUDING FITCHBURG. PRIMARY CONCERNS FACING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ARE A LACK OF STABLE HOUSING, ACCESS TO BASIC NEEDS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND DISCRIMINATION. A RECENT ANALYSIS OF HOMELESSNESS DATA SHOWS THAT PEOPLE EXPERIENCING UNSHELTERED HOMELESSNESS REPORT SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER HEALTH CHALLENGES AND EXPERIENCES OF TRAUMA AND VIOLENCE THAN THEIR SHELTERED PEERS. FOR THOSE UNABLE TO QUALIFY FOR COC ASSISTANCE, THESE CONCERNS ARE UNADDRESSED AND THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR SITUATION ALONE IS EXTREMELY LOW. RESTORATION RECOVERY WILL FILL THIS GAP AND ASSIST THOSE THAT ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS THESE SERVICES AND BREAK THE CYCLE. TO HELP ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS, RRC HOPES TO ENGAGE THE TARGET POPULATION THROUGH THE USE OF THIS GRANT TO ACHIEVE THE FOLLOWING GOALS: 1) INCREASE ACCESS FOR UNSHELTERED HOMELESS TO STABLE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING; 2) INCREASE ACCESS TO AND PROVIDE DIVERSE SERVICES FOR UNSHELTERED HOMELESS ADULTS THAT SUPPORT THEIR HOUSING, RECOVERY, AND PERSONAL GROWTH GOALS; AND 3) IMPROVE ECONOMIC AND HEALTH SECURITY FOR INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

ONE OF THE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BROOKSTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD REVEALED BY ANALYSIS IS THAT THE PER CAPITA INCOME OF RESIDENTS IS LOWER THAN THAT FOUND IN 97.7% OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS IN AMERICA. ALSO OF NOTE, 81.3% OF THE CHILDREN IN THIS AREA LIVE IN POVERTY AND CRIME RATES ARE HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. THE PROJECT GOAL IS TO PREVENT AND REDUCE VIOLENT CRIME IN BATON ROUGE, LA BY SUPPORTING COMPREHENSIVE EVIDENCED-BASED CRIME AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAMS. PROJECT OBJECTIVES ARE (1) TO BUILD THE RRM WORKING GROUP CALLED P.E.A.C.E (PLANNING, EVALUATION AND ADVISORY COALITION ENTITY); (2) TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A WORKABLE STRATEGIC PLAN THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE, DATA-COLLECTION, MULTIMETHOD, AND ANALYSIS APPROACH TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE, PATTERNS, AND ROOT CAUSES OF COMMUNITY VIOLENCE IN THE TARGET AREA; AND (3) TO EQUIP PROJECT AFRICAN AMERICAN YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING CREDENTIALS, LIFE SKILLS, AND PLACE IN EMPLOYMENT. THE FARMERS UNION MULTI-BENEFIT DIVERSION INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (PROJECT) WILL CONSTRUCT A NEW DIVERSION STRUCTURE THAT WILL PROVIDE SAFE FISH AND BOAT PASSAGE, ENHANCE AQUATIC AND RIPARIAN HABITAT, AND DELIVER WATER TO THE FUC, RIO GRANDE 1, AND MULTIPLE OTHER DITCHES. THE PROJECT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY DESIGNED TO CREATE PASSAGE FOR FISH, INCLUDING NATIVE SMALL-BODIED FISH SUCH AS RIO GRANDE CHUB, AND TO CREATE SAFE BOAT PASSAGE. OARA WILL PROVIDE RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES, INCLUDING TRANSITION AND CASE PLANNING, VOCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, PEER SUPPORT, SUPPORT GROUPS, AND COUNSELING. TRUESDALE ADULT DETENTION CENTER (ADC) AND THE ARLINGTON COUNTY DETENTION FACILITY (ACDF) ARE MEDIUM-SECURITY FACILITIES IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. MOUS ARE PROVIDED. APPROXIMATELY 30% OF OARA PARTICIPANTS HAVE SUD (ALCOHOL, OPIOID, MARIJUANA); 20% HAVE A CO-OCCURRING CONDITION SUCH AS ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, OR A MOOD DISORDER. OARA REENTRY PARTICIPANTS ARE PRIMARILY BLACK (70%), LATINE/X/O/INDIGENOUS (8%), AND MULTIRACIAL (6%) PEOPLE. BASED ON EXPERIENCE, ALL HAVE NO OR LOWER INCOME (BELOW $17,000/ YEAR), ABOUT 40% OF PARTICIPANTS HAVE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL, 60% ARE UNHOUSED BEFORE OR AFTER LEAVING THE DETENTION FACILITY, AND 80% EXPERIENCE POVERTY. VIRGINIA'S RECIDIVISM RATE IS 23 PERCENT. OARA DEFINES RECIDIVISM AS BEING RECONVICTED AND REINCARCERATED WITH A NEW SENTENCE. CORRECTIONS CONDUCTS MEDICAL, SUBSTANCE USE, AND MENTAL HEALTH SCREENINGS WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL WHEN THEY ENTER THE FACILITY. OARA CONDUCTS THE OFFENDER SCREENING TOOL (OST), RISK-NEED-RESPONSIVITY ASSESSMENTS, THE ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS IDENTIFICATION TEST; DAST-10 QUESTIONNAIRE; COLUMBIA-SUICIDE SEVERITY RATING SCALE; THE PATIENT HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE; AND THE LIFE EVENTS CHECKLIST. NCTR WILL COMPLETE THE ACCREDITED ASSESSMENT OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF ADDICTION MEDICINE, THE PATIENT HEALTH QUESTIONAIRE-9, AND THE GENERAL ANXIETY DISORDER-7. LOMAKATSI WILL FACILITATE THIS INITIATIVE THROUGH THEIR TRIBALLY-LED TRIBAL ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION PARTNERSHIPS PROGRAM, BUILDING ON OVER TWO DECADES OF SUCCESSFUL COLLABORATION WITH TRIBAL PARTNERS. WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE LAYERED INTO EXISTING PROJECTS, PROVIDING PARTICIPANTS WITH HIGHLY RELEVANT TRAINING EXPERIENCES WHILE ALSO ACCOMPLISHING ADDITIONAL RESTORATION TREATMENTS ON THE GROUND. THIS TRAINING WILL INCLUDE THE PUBLIC LAND CORPS HIRING CERTIFICATION THAT PROVIDES PREFERENCE FOR HIRING IN FEDERAL JOBS. THE PUBLIC LAND CORPS CERTIFICATION PROVIDES 640 HOURS OF DOCUMENTED WORK, PER PARTICIPANT, ON PUBLIC AND OR TRIBAL LANDS. LOMAKATSI WILL UTILIZE THEIR TRIBAL ECOLOGICAL FORESTRY TRAINING EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM, WHICH ENGAGES INDIGENOUS PARTICIPANTS IN HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE TO GAIN NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING, FOREST RESTORATION, WATERSHED AND WETLAND RESTORATION, CULTURAL RESOURCE MONITORING, AND LAND MANAGEMENT ON FEDERAL LANDS. THIS PROGRAM INTEGRATED WITH IYSC IS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE YOUNG ADULTS AGES 18-30, AND VETERANS UP TO AGE 35, TO A WIDE RANGE OF NATURAL RESOURCE CAREER PATHWAYS THROUGH ENGAGEMENT WITH EXPERTS FROM THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE AND OTHER PARTNERS. THE INTER-TRIBAL ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION PARTNERSHIP (ITERP), CURRENTLY CHAIRED BY LOMAKATSIS TRIBAL PARTNERSHIPS DIRECTOR, WILL ALSO BE LEVERAGED TO ENGAGE THE TRIBAL COMMUNITY, TRIBAL DEPARTMENTS AND TRIBAL GOVERNMENTS WITHIN THE PROJECT GEOGRAPHY TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS, AND DEVELOP NEW PROJECTS, OPPORTUNITIES, AND PARTNERSHIPS. ITERP IS COMPOSED OF INITIATIVE AND PROJECT-BASED STEERING COMMITTEES AND PARTNERS REPRESENTING REGIONAL TRIBES, TRIBAL COMMUNITY LEADERS, NATIVE AMERICAN OWNED FORESTRY, WILDLAND FIRE AND NATURAL RESOURCE CONTRACTING BUSINESSES, AND TRIBALLY-LED NON-PROFIT RESTORATION AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS AND PROGRAMS. ITERP IS COMMITTED TO THE CREATION OF ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION JOBS AND THE INCUBATION OF TRIBAL BUSINESSES, SUPPORTING TRIBAL MEMBERS TO WORK ON THEIR TIME IMMEMORIAL ANCESTRAL LAND BASES, AS THE FIRST, BEST STEWARDS. THIS PROJECT WILL COLLABORATIVELY DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION PROJECTS BY NPS AND LOMAKATSI , AND WITH PROJECT PARTNERS, FOR PUBLIC PURPOSE TO BENEFIT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES TO YOUNG PEOPLE AND VETERANS FROM TRIBAL AND RURAL COMMUNITIES IN AND AROUND NPS UNITS.THE PROJECT WILL PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH JOB TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, INCLUDING PUBLIC LAND CORPS HIRING CERTIFICATION, THROUGH CREW-BASED WORK AND TEAMS THAT MAY ALSO INVOLVE SOME INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENTS TO MEET THE PROJECT GOALS. THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO IMPROVE THE RESILIENCY OF SAGEBRUSH STEPPE, WOODLANDS, AND RIPARIAN ECOSYSTEMS AND ASSOCIATED CULTURAL LANDSCAPES AND RESOURCES IN AND AROUND THE NPS UNITS OF THE WESTERN US. THE PROJECT WILL BE DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED IN PHASES. PHASE 1 OF THIS PROJECT WILL OCCUR OVER THREE YEARS TO RESTORE AND ENHANCE RESILIENCY OF THE CITY OF ROCKS NATIONAL RESERVE AND CO-MANAGED CASTLE ROCKS STATE PARK (IN COMBINATION, CIRO), AND IN CRATERS OF THE MOON NATIONAL MONUMENT AND PRESERVE (CRMO). IT SERVES AS AN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM FOR RESEARCHERS AND STUDENTS OF ALL AGES, AND AN IMPORTANT RECREATION SITE FOR THE COMMUNITY. AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OF STRATEGIC FUELS REDUCTION, THINNING AND PRESCRIBED BURNING, THE PROJECT REQUIRES CONTINUED ATTENTION TO BOTH STRENGTHEN THE LONG-TERM DATA EMERGING FOR THIS BEST-PRACTICE MODEL AND CONTINUE THE PERPETUAL WORK OF RESTORING A FIRE-ADAPTED LANDSCAPE.
