AN ESTIMATED, 72 FGP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER, 61 FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: ASSISTING WITH COGNITIVE ACTIVITIES, SOCIAL SKILLS, COMMUNICATION SKILLS, READING SKILLS, ASSISTING WITH SCHOOL WORK, AND OFFERING POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT. THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, THE EXPECTED OUTCOME FOR CHILDREN SERVED WILL SHOW AN INCREASE IN COGNITIVE SKILLS (LEARNING AND THINKING), LANGUAGE AND SPEECH, SOCIAL SKILLS (FRIENDSHIP, TEAMWORK, AND RESPECT), READING SKILLS, SELF-HELP, AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $364,875 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY SOUTHEAST ALABAMA COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP (SEACAP) IN THE AMOUNT OF $79,012.
